Rod/Reel purchase advice needed

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I am looking to purchase a new rod and reel, but i have no clue what to buy. My only requirement is that i want a nice quality, versatile combo so i dont have to dish out a lot of cash.

I have only used spinner reels all my life, so it might make more sense to stay with one of those. But if Baitcasters are more versatile i can use my old spinner while learning with a new BC. My limit for the combo is around $180.

Thanks in advance for the help. This site has taught me a lot already and I just found it today :-)

Not having stated the types of baits and sizes it would be impossible to give you sound advice.  Give out some more info and you can get some suggestions.

around 180 bucks this would be a VERY nice setup thats a VERY high quality, a Daiwa S rod 6'6 MED fast tip and a 6.3/1 Dawia exceler 185.00ish would get you that setup and I know you would be pleased with it... I can bet theres a lot of people on this site that will RAVE to you about how good those Dawia S rods are. theres alot of Daiwas PROS that can have a boat load of Steez rods and they still Fish the S rods. Denny B. is one of them

spinning is more versatile.

id get a shimano sahara or symetre and a fenwick hmg with a fast action

or get a st. croix avid (excellent warranty) and use your old reel until you save up enough for another.
