Let's just say some dude had

Recommended Posts

Let's just say some dude had a 6'10" Heavy, X-Fast rod just sitting there, begging for something to do?

This boy doesn't have a reel for company (which I find sad) and other than frog season, not really sure what other contributions to the team he could make.  I told him, I know some folks, real good folks who are VERY well versed in matters such as these and I will ask them.  All of them are very important, very busy people, so be patient and the real answer will come.

He assured me, patience he has, reel-less, his choices are limited.

Thanks in advance - Twitch

Hmmm. Sounds like your rod has some issues. I would suggest getting a 100~ dollar reel. Ive not owned a Revo but ti fits the bill as a strong reel. You could throw frogs, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits and who knows what else. Ive got an XHF rod that is pretty versitile for a lot stuff.

Slap a Shimano Citica or Cruxis on loaded with 50lb Power Pro and you got a awesome pitching/flipping, frog rod.  But I'd personally use it to skip jigs and tubes under docks!

id look at citica or curado for the reel.

id use it for heavy jigs, c-rig, heavy spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. might not be ideal for swimbaits but you could toss some light ones maybe...

probably make a good catfish and striper rod too.

What would be the best reel? Gear ratio, size? Then what line?

Frogs, C-rigs, Jigs and light swimbaits would be other useful applications? do those change reel choice and line to spool?

I'd marry that bad boy up with a Revo, Citica or Cardiff then spool it with some braided line and go looking for some Hydrilla but then that's just me.

For that stuff I'd look to a Revo S...   if the budget is much higher perhaps something different but that will do these things very well.  I had a Revo S for a while and used it in those exact applications.  Only sold it because I had too many reels and didn't want it to gather dust.

I'd go #17 XT or #20 Sufix (blue box) but that's just me, I don't do braid.
