dropshot reel size

Featured Replies

what is the best size spinning reel to be used for drop shotting, going to be using 6-8 lb test. Thanks!

i think a shimano 2500 size is the best not only for drop shotting but for all spinning needs

I would say If you are keeping around 6-8 then something that will hold a good 160-200 yards of 6#.

Have been using a shemano 2500 for ds'n for awhile..with yozuri 8lb ultra soft...no problems, might even drop down to 6 lb test soon.

I use a the Diawa Tierra 2000 Spinning Reel for my DS.  To me, it's the PERFECT spinning reel.  I can use it for DS, Trout fishing, small jigs, etc.

I would think anywhere between 1000 and 2500 could be used for dropshotting, depending on what line is being used. For your case with 6-8lb test, I would probably stick with a 1500-2500 sizes.

I agree, a 2500 is the "universal" size. However, if you are at the

point of collecting technique specific equipment, the next size down

is something to consider. Depending on the brand, that's either 1000

or 1500 series. I have a Stella 1000FA saddled up with an Avid

AVS66MLF. It's sweet!
