Are spinning reel sizes standardized? Meaning, do 3000 series reels from different manufactuers have the same basic size profile? I ask because I have been looking at reels online and have noticed that the same size reels have greatly varying line capacities and didn't know if this was just dependent on the spool size or the reel overall.

Example:

Shimano Sahara SH3000FD - 8/170 (lb/yds)

Pflueger President 6730X - 8/100 (lb/yds)

They Vary by Manufacturer. I use a President 6735 and a Trion Spinning reel by Pflueger also in a 35 size. My partner has a Stradic and it is sized differently, so is his Cardinal. I would say if you can go to a tackle store and handle them, it will be easier for you to get an idea .

Tell us what exactly you are looking for and there are plenty of Pflueger, Shimano, Daiwa, Abu, etc. guys here that can get you where you're going.

Thanks for the quick response. I do have the Pflueger 6730x, but was thinking about trying a Shimano to replace one of my older reels and wanted something with a similar size to the Pflueger.

Go to Shimano Suppot Forum, Bantam works for them and Road Warrior is there a lot,best folks to ask.

The only real difference between Shimano 2500 and 3000 is the size of the spool.

i got the shimano sahara,symetre,saros,stradic and sustain in sizes 2500-3000 all great love them all spool sizes vary for diff. companies to save weight on theryre reels any shimano reel is great i also have team daiwa tierra and sol that are great,i also love my pflueger supreme xt all depends on what yer lookn for and what yer fishing for the saros is pretty close to a pflueger in size id say but alot smoother so is the new stradic.but good luck on your choice theres alot out there.

I own most of these major brands and the sizes are not industry standard(close). In some brands only difference between smaller reel and a slightly larger one is spool size and same frame, in others the frame is bigger. You have to eyeball them in person.

You can't go wrong with any of the above mentioned reels, I have my favorite, but you have to decide for yourself.

I'm always willing to try something new.

Ok. Thanks everyone. All my older rods have Mitchells on them, which I always thought were nice, but just don't compare to the Pflueger. I figured I should try a few different brands to see what I prefer. I will probably just go check some out in person this weekend.

Bought my 1st baitcaster last week as well. That is an Abu Garcia Revo S. Working out well so far, but I just need a lot more practice to be comfortable casting with it. Did catch a walleye on it the 1st time using it so that gave me a bit of confidence.
