new rod(s)

Featured Replies

Im looking to get two new spinning rods. both for all around use.  I want to spend around 50 to 80 dollars on one reel and 100 to 150 on the other. What would you all suggest in both those price ranges?

If your question is about reels, get two Shimano Symetre 2500FJ.

If your question is about combinations, I would look for the Power

and Action you want in any house brand rod, matched to the Symetre

and on sale! (Be patient, house brand combinations are always on

sale).

If you are asking about rods, for the lower priced selection, I would

look at house brands (on sale). For $150 you might find a deal on a

St. Croix Avid, but full bore retail is a little higher.

For "all around" rods, I would suggest 6 1/2' or 7' Medium Power/

Fast Action. However, a better choice is one M/F for jigs and soft

plastics (single hooks) and one Medium Power/ Moderate Action

for treble hook lures. The higher priced rod should be for jigs and

soft plastics.  Almost anything with a soft tip works for treble hooks.

a few rods I were looking at were the all star classic graphite rod that is $50 another few i was looking in the 90 dollar range were the falcon original and the american rodsmiths champion. Is it worth it to spend the extra 40 dollars? I was also looking at the falcon lowrider xg rods. again would the extra 40 be worth it? Also out of those few rods. which would you suggest?

Also in addition, have a look at the Shimano Shara reel, and the Shimano Clarus rods..
