Here's the new Patriarch XT

I don't like the color but the rest of the design is pretty sweet.

It's not hard to tell that reel rolls off the same assembly line as the Revos and Johnny Morris.  I'm not sure if I like the anodized blue on that reel or the Morris.

johhny morris is a different frame than a revo patriarch.it's bigger.

I really got to fiddle with the Patriarch this last weekend.  I must say, cough cough, I like it better than the Revo STX.

It's smaller than the Revo, or at least feels like it is.  And it palms MUCH better.  I like to wrap my index finger around the front of the reel.  On my Revos, the pawl cap hits my finger as it sweeps back and forth.  That doesn't happen on my Zillions, Fuegos and Sol.  I thought Daiwa was the only manufacturer that got it right.   Then I used a Patriarch.  Pflueger got it right, too.  That pawl cap is shielded and your finger won't bump it.  (Also, the pawl cap is polished metal on the Patriarch - it's plastic on the Revo.)

The Patriarch is the bombdiggity.  Now, in a killer color, reduced weight, and without that dumb handle, they may have built the perfect reel.

I'm definitely going to have to get at least one.

Step one, strip the reel down and see if the main shaft and drag assemblies are interchangable with the old patriarchs.

It's not hard to tell that reel rolls off the same assembly line as the Revos and Johnny Morris.

It's much closer to an STX than a JM. While the dual braking system on the 2 reels (STX & Patriarch) is very close the crank side mech is different. As DG said, the JM reels are also noticeably larger in size and heavier.

These reels will spoil you.  They can be fine tuned for thumbs free casting regardless of what lure you're throwing.  And yes, the ergonomics and feel of the reel are as smooth as a baby's bottom.

With a $249 MSRP it ought to hit Ebay for about $180-$220, if we're lucky. I told myself I was done buying reels for a while, but I may have to rethink that...

Alright, Pflueger, hows about a burner model in black, and a cranking reel in red?

Since these reels seem to borrow heavily from Pinnacles, I wonder if they will start using Pinnacle's new 8 magnet system.

Not big on the blue...may look different in person though.

I think I would compare it more to the premier than the stx

which is funny because this reel won't work any different than the other, just weigh less even though 8oz for the old reel is pretty light to begin with.

I managed to get my hands on one and the real is very nice!
