BAIT MONKEY IS CALLING ME!  SHOULD I ANSWER?

Featured Replies

I have a good $400.00 to spend on new fishing tackle.  I know it isn't much, so I was wondering if any of you knew of any killer sales, either now, or upcoming?

Does Bass Pro Shops have an annual sale every spring or winter that I should know about?

Is there a crushingly amazing place online that I should know about that has good poles and reels for an inexpensive price?

I think for soft plastics I'm going to order a bunch of *** stuff as opposed to the millions I spent on Senkos and other SP's last year.  But where should I go to purchase, poles, reels, line, crank baits, swim baits, scents, buzzbaits etc etc?

Should I wait, or buy now?

Thanks RW.  Any suggestions on a reel for 100 bucks or less that can make long casts from shore with 20 pound braid?  I want to start fishing braid more for various reasons, and don't have a boat, so I really need a smooth casting spinning reel to get way out to the deeper mats and cover.

We use shimano Symetres, both for light weight saltwater stripers, and freshwater bass. We have caught stripers up to 30 pounds on these light 4000 size reels. They are very durable. Another, cheaper choice that we have used is the Shimano Sahara. Saharas in the 4000 size do not seem to be to big for freshwater either.

The Shimano Stradic 2500FH is being replaced by the 2500FI. If you shop around a little, you might find an FH for around $80. I think this is the "best value" in the Shimano line-up.

Quick correction on my orginal post, we use symetres and SEDONAS not sahara's  ;D

According to the 2008 BPS catalog, all BPS stores are having their Classic Sale the same time..............Feb. 29 through March16, 2008.

If I'm reading it right, it will be held over three weekends.

BPS has an annual sale every spring.  They usual have a reel trade in sale.  You bring a old banged up reel, they will donate it and give you a discount towards a new one.  Bad thing though about it though was last year Shimano did not participate.

As far as deals go right now, I have been getting some great prices on stuff at Dicks Sporting Goods.  All stuff I have found has been on clearance.  I have purchased a couple of St. Croix Avid rods for around $65-$75 and a Shimano Stradic 2500 for $65 with a coupon.  You can usually find a buy $50 and get $10 off coupon in either the paper or on line.  Just like you mentioned Senkos, I will wait till spring, they will have them for 20% off, I buy 11 packs at $4.80 per pack instead of $6, use a $10 off coupon and that makes them $3.90 a pack. Not as good as *** but still a good deal.  Also, Dicks will usually put a coupon in the paper for 20% off any one fisging item in the spring.  So keep your eyes open.  ;)
