I have a few friends that swear a 2 piece is stronger than a single 1 piece rod.Could you all let them know your opinion.THANK YOU. 2 piece or telescopic rods.I told them that anything jointed, or telescopic, will have the tendency to break at these areas.

Thats funny.I was just going to post this same exact thing. I am just curious thats all.

I recently got into a little discussion with someone who said that the joint is the strongest part on his rod.  Why do they make $350.00 3 piece rods for musky fishing if they are weak?? Is this just a matter of personal preference?

A recent nationwide survey found that, while one-piece rods were more likely to fall victim to accidental breakage in GMC Jimmy rear windows, the ratio of intentional breakage by owners of Ford F-250s far exceeded the expected results.  

    Don't know about strength between the two, but in my younger years of fishing when I used 2-piece rods, they often became seperated on the cast.

I would imagine either rod would probably be more likely to break at the tip than the middle of the blank.

I never broke a one piece playing a fish but have broken a 2 piece. Closing on doors and windows do not count. Based on this I feel a one piece is stronger. Each break was at the joint.

Depends on the joint or ferrule.  If properly built, the ferrule should be stronger then the rod sections.

if not assembled correctly, that can happen.  I'm amazed at how many say this happens...  in over 20 years (as an adult) with 2, 3 or 4 piece rods, I haven't had a single tip section cast off.

As flechero stated it will depend on how well the ferrules have been built. I have a 13 year old 2 piece rod that gets a lot of light line workouts catching bass and no problems.....

I have also built 100's of telescopic flipping rods and they have never had an issue with the junctions.

Never owned one in my life,but know a few good friends that had the joints SPLIT from the power of setting the hook, the weakest leak.Single rods always break 4-6inches from the tip.Now could this be because there drag systems are to tight, along with the wrong lines for the rods you are using.And then what about Braids people love to winch down on the drags as well.What happen to just playing your fish with every thing in tune the way you like it, not the way your Bodies do.There are a few people on here I,m sure that Match their spinning gear up with braid thinking it,s 12lb diameter witch could be 15-20lb in strength.What about the wrong type of rods for the application to which they are using them.  

I have NEVER had a 2 or 3 piece rod separate on a cast...  :-?
