crankbait reel help

Featured Replies

I'm looking for some suggestions for a crankbait baitcaster with gears in the low 5's.

I have a curado 200e7 now and love it and thats to fast. I didnt want to pay 180 for a crank reel if i dont have too. Don't use it a ton. i probably have been spoiled.

Looking to spend between 80-120

If you can find an old Energy E750PT for less than $100 they are a pretty good reel for cranks.  An E5 would be better and can be found for $150 on ebay

how do you feel about abu round reels? theres a buttload of them out there that run 5.3:1 that would make great crankers and the reels last a lifetime.

a well working abu will toss 5/16 oz baits all day.

I was just about to suggest that, LOL!

well, i just bought a cardiff for my swimbait rod and i'm not that big a fan of the round profile. Sorry

Curado 200dpv :)

I use a 201dpv with my compre crankin stick.  I fish crankbaits 80% of the time and I love this combo!  I can reel fast and burn em in or slow it down and really slow that lure down!

You might want to look at inches per turn vs. the ratio.

Makes sense.

My suggestion is a Bass Pro Shops Extreme, model ETX10SE (it's right handed crank, get model ETX10SLE of you want a leftie). It's a 5.4:1 ratio and pulls in 23" of line per handle turn. It's retail price is $79.99, but many times it can be had for $60 or $65 on sale. If you look on ebay you might find one of last year's models, the ETX10SD, which I personally have. I like the brakes on it better than this year's model. It has the inertia brake (centrifugal/magnetic hybrid) compared to this year's model only having just the magnetic brake. This year's model also has the swept inward handles vs. last year's are the traditional type. Otherwise virtually the same reel, aluminum frame and all.
