this is just nuts

Featured Replies

Yea, I dont fish large waters, primarly due to convienence, its just to easy to travel a couple of blocks and fish everyday vs traveling 20 miles and dealing with all kinds of issues.  Im just lazy, what can I say, its just fun catching a few 1-3 #'ders everyday without having to go to a lot of trouble.  Guess I am what some would refer to as a recreational fisherman.  Not trying to prove anything, just having fun.

When the need arises, I'll add whatever gear is best for that situation and advice from experienced fisherman like the ones here will help guide my buying decisions.

Honestly, if I had a pond in my backyard like you do, I would do the same exact thing.

1-3lbers every day after work doesnt sound too bad to me at all.

I would do the same for a few months and then I'd buy a truck and a bass boat and find me some big water. Maybe not just for the challenge, but also because boats are fun.

The best part is where I live the bass pond is almost 5 acres and its in one of those snoby golf course communities. Only me and 1 of my neighbors fish so its a real sweet place. Makes it worth the expensive annual dues.

Owned a boat 20 years ago, it was a lot of fun but it was also a hole in the water that consumed lots of money and time.

Thought about buying another boat but I keep talking myself out of it when Im catching fish almost everyday so close to home.

Methinks someone needs to hit the gym...

It's not that we (those that like light weight stuff) are wimpy, it just feels so much better when properly paired.

You guys should handle a well balanced, lightweight outfit and then make up your mind. I have a 784 with a 50MG on it the is not only superlight, it balances completely neutral in the hand... you practically can feel the sediment in the water on a slack line. :o

Everyone that's held it so smiles big & says "wow", and it fishes better than it feels. ;)

With a 7+ oz reel on that rod, it's still awesome, but it loses some of the "wow factor."

Don't get me started on line capacity.   :-X

Keith, I actually do own one.

51mg on a 6'8" Alpster custom.  Completely lightweight, balanced, and Dan has actually fished with it too.

Before I got the MG, I had a Revo S on it.  Honestly, other than the smoothness of the 51, I didnt notice a difference in the two combos.  Even over an entire day of fishing, there was not an appreciable difference in my fatigue.

not in fatigue, heck my watch weighs about 5 oz.  I meant sensitivity...  I can feel a great difference in a lighter reel on the rod, even better when balanced out...  I can't believe it's just my hands.  ?

I know what you mean. That Alpster Custom/51MG combo feels like a feather. I have a 6'9" Zillion with a Revo Premier and a 6'8" GBlank (the lightest of my rods by far) with a Fuego on it. I know what you are talking about with the feel of a featherlight and balanced combo but I couldn't use every tool in my box if those were all I fished.

Pretty reel.  I wouldnt get one though, not a huge fan of round reels.

Can't wait to see what Megabass will be doing with the Steez.  ;)
