I was looking into buying some Fluoroclear or Flurocarbon line and saw both the clear and green colors.  I know that fishing clear water requires clear line but what exactly is the difference between clear or green line in stained water?  Does this even matter?  Is one better than the other and why?

Some will argue it matters, some like to camo their braid, some fish it as is.

A common misconception is that Fluorocarbon is "invisible". Fluorocarbon is closer to the refractive index of water than other types of line, thus making it virtually invisible, but not completely.

Some brands state that it is completely invisible but this is simply not true.

I have never used green tinted Fluorocarbon so can't really comment on that.  But I have used green tinted copoly in stained water worked just as well as clear copoly.

I have caught just as many fish in stained water with dark green braid as Fluorocarbon. I usually will only use Fluorocarbon if a lake is crystal clear. If the water is murky or stained I'll be using braid or a copoly 90% of the time. It all really just comes down to line preference. I have yet to find a Fluorocarbon that I like.

Well, if you want to try Yo-Zuri Hybrid:

Crystal clear water: Green

Stained water: Smoke

These lines blend almost perfectly.

Ok great.  Thanks for all of the information, it's very helpful.  I think where I fish the water is usually stained but there are places where it's clear so a clear line would work in all situations since I don't really have a preference.  I wanted to see how people felt about clear line in dark water when a lot of people out there are always using something darker like a green color.  Again, thanks a ton.

I personally like the bps fluorocarbon, or the gamma copolymer in clear for most conditions

I dont think line color matter, I have used 50lb braid in gin clear water and caught fish, I havnt noticed an increase of fish going to flourocarbon on my finesse rigs! I use 20/6 and 15/4 Braid on spinning gear a lot and never had a problem. Ive used 6-20 yo zuri and pline cxx and caught fish!

yeah that makes sense.  most of the areas around here have pretty stained water.  definitely nothing crystal clear that i've seen yet that's for sure.
