High End Spinning Reel - which shimano model is comparable to the daiwa steez

Featured Replies

What is the closest match in the shimano lineup compared to the steez in spinning reels.

Stella FD

Sustain FE

Stradic CI4

Im looking for similar weight and size. Im trying a steez spinning and it feels very good but want to try a shimano reel before I make a decision. It would be easy if shimano had a core spinning reel like diawa has a steez spinning reel. A recommendation from people that have used the high end shimano spinning reels would be appreciated.

I've never tried the Steez. I am coming from the opposite spectrum, I am a Shimano guy and want to try out Daiwas. The Stella is comparable to the Steez but mind you I've never tested the Steez, I'm just going by price tiers.

The Stella uses magnesium frame and side plate and I do believe the Steez does too. If memory serves me correctly in the 2500 for both models the Steez is actually lighter - but I am not sure if the 2500 Daiwa is the same as a 2500 Shimano.

I have Shimano reels from the Stradic FI to the Stella. In my opinion, I think you should take a look at the Sustain as well as the Stella. If you are in the market for a Stella, I think the Sustain offers more value for the buck. The best value in my opinion anyways is the Stradic (both FI and CI4).

Good luck.

just look at the prices. That should answer your question.

Stella , the others are not even close . The sustain I had was nice but is not close to the stella.

Is the Stella FD really that much better than the Stradic CI4, I know there is a big price difference but I thought the new Stradic CI4 was Shimanos new latest and greatest spinning reel.

Any Stella FD owners care to comment on the advantage over the new Stradic CI4.

How does the Sustain fit into the mix?  Is a Stella better than a Sustain and if so why?

Pardon all the questions but Im a dummy when it comes to spinning reels.  They all seem to work the same way.

Hey Bob,

PM Bronzefly. He's got a Stella for sale now in the flea market. I would buy that one based on sex appeal alone.

Price is comparable, ey?

Steezy,

Get the FD, you will like it a lot, promise.

There is no "value" rating on this reel.

Fishing this reel is like holding "girl thingy" in

your hand.

8-)

Is there a big diff between the FB and FD model? Bronzefly has a great deal on an FB.

  • Super User

I have an FA, two FB and a FD.  There is NOTHING

comparable to the FD. For purely fishing, you might not

notice much difference, but from a mechanical engineering

stand point, they are miles apart.

For most people, buy the FB and be VERY happy,

but for you, the FD is the only option. Trust me...

Im gonna go look at it this week and will probably buy it to try and see if its all everyone says it is.  Im thinking Medium Light rod, what would be the best high end choice for a reel of that quality?  steez, glx, .......

Mine is paired with a Megabass Destroyer.  I love the set up.

The Stella is the finest spinning reel I've used.  I have the FD model as well which is absolutely amazing - not sure if performance wise, it's light years ahead of the FB, but nonetheless the finest spinning reel I've had the pleasure of fishing.  The only thing the Stradic and the Stella have in common is the "St"  While a fine reel, the Stradic - any model - can't fairly be compared to a Stella.  The Sustain is very nice as well, but all things in comparison to a Stella just fall short as well they should simply based on the price difference!
