Over the holidays, Im lookin to add several more technique-specific set-ups to get ready for a busy spring.  Im not necessarilly looking for a specific brand but feel free to throw that in as well. Heres what Im looking for.

Shallow-Medium Cranks

Deeper Cranks

Topwater

Flippin/pitchin/frog

Id really appreciate it if someone would tell me what power and action they prefer for each of these setups and if you prefer a slower, medium, or faster gear ratio.  Right now I have a medium/x fast rod and Im not exactly sure as to what it is best suited for either.  If anyone could shed a little light on what your preferences are for any of this and why I would greatly appreciate it.

This is how I roll:

Spinnerbait: For 1/2 oz and less: Medium power/ fast

action, fast reel, Avid AVC70MF, Shimano Metanium.

For heavier spinnerbaits, St. Croix EC70MHF, Shimano

Calais.

Shallow-medium cranks: Medium power/ moderate action,

fast reel: Avid AVC70MM, Chronarch

Deeper cranks: Heavy power/ slow action, slow reel:

Lamiglas SR705R, Shimano CTE200GT

Topwater, jerkbaits and buzzbaits:

Medium power/moderate action or fast with

a soft tip, fast reel: Avid AVC66MF, Shimano

Core 100MG

Jigs: Heavy power/ fast action, fast reel:

G. Loomis BCR854, CU200E7.

Weighted soft plastics: Heavy Power/ Fast Action, fast reel:

MBR844C, STX

Weightless soft plastics: Spinning tackle,

medium power/ fast action, fast reel:

St. Croix ES70MF, Stella 2500FD

RW, what do you think about a Med-Light 7' rod and a lightweight 7.x BC reel using 10# line for weaightless soft plastics?

Mine is a new rig I just put together for drop

shoting and split shot rigging, but would also

be great for weightless presentations:

G. Loomis GLX MBR842C/ Shimano Scorpion/

Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6.

The tip is flexible, but not wimpy. More importantly,

even with light weights (<1/4 oz), this rig loads up

and launches a mile!

The Shimano Scorpion is rated for 12# line, do you have any problem going so far outside the specs with the Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 ?

  For spinner baits, shallow cranks, and topwater, why do you prefer a faster gear ratio?  And by fast do you mean a 6:1 or 7:1?  Is it a personal preference thing?

Yo-Zuri #6 is 11.9 lb breaking strength, .010" diameter.

12 pound test in a thinner diameter.

The actions on the 6'10''MH Carrot Stix Gold and 7'MH Lucky Craft run slower than stated.  The Gold acts as a M with a M-F action and the Lucky Craft is Fiberglass, the action on it is tricky, it's rather soft at the tip but transitions faster than a moderate action.  All Powell Max rods, with the exception of their two cranking series rods, come in a XF action so there's not really a choice there but I like it with co-poly to get a better hookset for flipping since I don't use braid.  I like faster actions for contact and single hook baits.
