Distance problems with Pfleuger Asaro and Cetina

Recommended Posts

I had both the Asaro and Cetina baitcasters. The Asaro seemed pretty good about 4-5 times out. After that, it just wouldn't cast worth a d**n. Tried relubing it without much change. The Cetina was good for about 2 times out. Anyone know anything about these reels or have experience with them?

I had an Asaro for awhile and had no problems with it.

While it may not cast light lures quite as well the Patriarch, it still casts very well. I have mine on a 7' Kistler Magnesium TS crankbait rod and have no trouble launching lipless cranks a very respectable distance.

We checked all the settings. I don't know what the problem was but my Pinnacles cast much better, as does my Quantum PT. The new Curado 201e7 my kid got casts like a dream. And his Pfleuger Supreme casts very well. The Asaro seems more cheaply made.

You haven't told us the actual casting problem. Distance, backlashes or what ever. Give us more information. What is the problem? What weight lures? Type and # test or size of line? How did you relube and what lube did use on bearings. What lube did you use on the gearing and how much did you use on either? How old the reels? What rods are you using?

Having trouble after a very few times out tells us that some thing has changed; the issue is what.

The rod probably has as much if not more to do with casting distance. Try swapping the reel onto a rod that casts well and see if that makes a difference. Make sure to use the same line and weight. Only then will you be able to diagnose a problem.

These were brand new reels. The issue was the casting distance. Backlash wasn't a problem. And rods weren't the issue. I've used other reels on the same rods, gotten considerably more distance. It just felt like those reels just couldn't throw out the line. I'm talking about with jerks & cranks. Full throttle casts.

Just a guess, what kind of lube? You said they were new. From what I've seen, the factories put grease in the spool bearings, fine when it's warm. When it hits 50 or lower here, you're wasting your time trying to throw any distance. I'm guessing when you're lubing them, you ain't moving any of their factory grease out, so I'm guessing it's cold, your profile says Oregon, it's in the 40s there....

You said the Asaro casted good 4-5 times, was that before it got cold?

I clean my bearings and use a good oil that stays good even in low temps.
