Wave cast reels?

The reel does work. ;)  It's an ingenious system where the contact between the spool lip and line is minimized during casting.  The spool lip looks like a wave if you will.  This way when line is coming off the spool it only touches at the highest point of the spool.

The reel itself is a very nice piece for the price.

I have tried them but never owned one. From my limited experience they seemed to do what they were supposed to. My only problem is with the knobs. I just don't like the round design.

I bought one and liked it at first. Then it started making a whiny noise and also had a sloppy feel just a few months after I bought it. I'm done expierimenting with other brands, I'll stick to Shimano for good.

I bought the DH3000 a couple of years ago and it's been a good reel or me.  It also started making a bit of a whiny noise on the retrieve but it hasn't been an issue with performance.  The round knob does take some getting used to, but the fact that it is different doesn't mean that it doesn't function.  Everyone's take on the handle knob is going to be different.  If you like the reel, but not the round knob on the handle, Hannon has a replacement handle available for about $15.  It's actually for the DHxl model, but fits the DH3000s.

I have 2 and have used them quite a bit.  They work very well - great drag system!  Smooth gears and solid.  I've had no problems with them. My only beef is the anti-reverse button is in the wrong place, IMO.  It keeps getting flipped "off" accidentally in the rod locker from bumping around.
