Rods Issues

Featured Replies

So with the $200 I got for Christmas, I bought a Falcon Lowrider 7' HF. It's a REALLY sensitive rod, however it isn't nearly stiff enough for my jig fishing. Part of the problem is probably that I got a rod made specifically for Carolina Rigs, but bought it with the sole intention of fishing jigs. Stupid, yes.

What rods have you guys used that are underrated? I really want a jig rod in the 6'10"- 7'3" range, with a handle that is not incredibly long, preferably 9 inches. I've done searches on TW all day long, and every rod in that range seems to have one thing "wrong". Example: BuCoo's apparently have a parabolic-like bend, same with Powells and Lowriders.

I've been looking at the Shimano Claruses. I know they're not as nice, but they seem to be nice rods for the $80 price range. Anyone used the 7' Heavy?

I'm real sorry to keep posting about this, but I've already made the mistake once, might as well not do it again.

Thanks

I have it, if what you want is a pool cue then that 's your poison, I use it as my flipping/small under 2 oz swimbait rod.

If you want a stiff, over powered, broom stick, buy a St. Croix  heavy power/fast action rod.

Hahaha, cool. I'll get one soon. How does it balance with a Citica 200e?

Now I've gotta figure out what to do with my Lowrider.......

Falcon Low Rider XG rods are an excellent product ( I own (2) 7' MH).  I'm sure you'll have no problem unloading that!

That Lowrider is the exact one on my BPS wish list right now, as the upgrade I want for my current Carolina rigging rod. I already have the reel for it and everything, now to just get the wife on board with me pulling the trigger, so if you want to sell it, please let me know.

Oops, sorry bout that, I need a spinning one. I'm guessing yours is the casting? You just helped me realize I had the wrong one on my list. Why don't they have a 7' M fast in a spinning rod? Whatever, I'll use a 6'10", and I'm sure you won't have a problem moving that rod at all. Oh, and to answer your question, check out the Vendettas.

how big are the jigs youre using? id assume that rod would handle 7/16 to 1/2 jigs with trailers nicely.

I have no idea, I got the Citica as XMas present from the ball and chain and haven 't tried it, actually the only thing I 've done is spool 14 lbs test line in it but that reel is not for the Clarus rod, that rod already has it 's reel ( Citica 200D ).

What kind of jig fishing?

I like a fast action rod, and usually a H is too heavy for me.

I used a 7' MH Lowrider for about everything years ago and it was great. Would still make a great jig rod...It was the older Lowrider not the XG.
