How fast is Shimano repair turn around? Updated (FAST!)

Featured Replies

I've got a Citica 200E that had one of the brake pins break off and it's under warranty. I'd like to get it fixed but I've also got a tourney on Feb 7th. I didn't know if anybody had any experience with there repair turn around. Also do they do any yearly lubing at a reasonable rate?

Give them a call (417)873-5274.  8am-4;30pm CST Mon-Fri.

Like Bass-Brat recommended contact them direct. If the main service center is slow/backed up, then I would be contacting a Satellite Warranty Service Center closest to you for their turn around time....

My last episode with shimano service took 6 weeks.  I use local repair shops with no shipping costs and fast turn around time.

Ask your local reel repair person how much would that part cost to fix. Then call shimano to ask turn around time. I think it was $25 for baitcasters + 10 shipping back to you and add the shipping cost to get the reel there. Shimano ususally replace the parts for free and would just charge the servicing fee. Then see what is more logical for you. I agree w/ reel mech to

I dont know how much it usually cost but the tackle shop I go to is $12.5 for servicing baitcasters + parts. turn around time usually 1-2 weeks.

I would send it to Shimano® as I don't think it (the spool) can be repaired, I think the spool will need to be replaced. They (Shimano®) would have the part readily available..

I kept thinking that someone would make this suggestion, they didn't so here it is. Call Shimano and tell them that your reel is under warranty and that you have a dated receipt you can fax them if need be. Tell them your brake pin is broken and that you need a new spool. Tell them that you are perfectly capable of replacing the spool if they will just send you a new one and offer to send them the broken spool. this will save both you and them time and money. If you have any problems or don't get a helpful customer service person, contact Dan Thorburn, I'm sure he will help you. I can get you his email if you don't know where to find it.   Shimano customer service 8:00am to 4:30 pm Est   877-577-0600. If you ask them nicely and present the reasons that it would be best for both of you, I'm sure you will have a new spool soon. Try it and let us know.

Wow thanks I'll definitely give this a try. I agree that it's the most reasonable solution.

Well just to give a update on the situation. Shimano gave me a good reason to never buy a reel from anybody else ever again. I called up and waited on hold for a few minutes but got a great Shimano rep. I explained the situation to him and he took down my name and address info and asked for date of purchase. That was it and he now has a new spool on it's way to me free of charge!! Way to go Shimano!! Great to know that the company who makes my favorite reels also stands behind them with fantastic customer service!

Congats Simp, I knew they would take care of ya. As long as the reel you have is still in production or they still have parts for it, Shimano has the best customer service I have seen.

That's not the first time Shimano sent out a Free spool.. :)

Out of curiousity, does Shimano normally charge when repairing a reel that is under warranty?

No, not if the repair is under warranty.
