Help me pick a rod??

Featured Replies

i have narrowed my choices in a new rod down to three i will be using this rod for pitching, throwing jigs and carolina rigs. it will be paired up with a bass pro shops pro quailifier reel. here are the three rods which one would you recommend??

-St. Croix Mojo rod 7' MH- $99.99

-Lamiglas Excel rod 7' MH- $109.99

-Shimano Compre rod 7' MH-$109.99

past posts say that the mojo is a bit heavy.

havnt held a lamiglas.

i love my 6' MF compre.

I have the Mojo and a Compre. I would say the compre is a much better rod, but St. Croix also makes other models besides the Mojo in that price range. The Compre would be an excellent choice, they are powerful and sensitive.

I beleive the Mojo, Truimph and Premier all have the same blank in the St Croix line.  Other than comestics the blanks are their stain II graphite.  I have several of the Triumphs and a couple Avids.  For Carolina and Jigs,  I would squirrel a few more dollars and get an Avid.  Lighter and more sensitive.

I would go with the Mojo.

I'd take the Shimano.. ;)

I haven't held the Lami, but I have handled the Mojo and the Compre and neither have impressed me. I'm also not a big fan of split-grip rods, so of the rods listed, I'd have to say Compre...but I think you could find a much better rod in the Flea Market in the same price range. For example, I picked up a lightly used Avid a few months ago for $90 shipped.
