Then just buy a Shimano Symetre or for a little

more, the Stradic 2500CI4. These are top of the

class at their pricing point.

I owned the first US Reel when they were made

in St. Louis. They REALLY sucked then and

I doubt they're any better today.

8-)

funny you should say that i was gonna buy a symetre as my backup plan, if i cant find anything better. i figured i just might as well get some other reel opinion, but i figured that as a genral rule, you cant beat shimano. just looking around though. thanks! :D

Hey Trevor , why all the interest in these obscure reels ? I've noticed other threads you have asked about reels that are not really main stream equipment.

I think that their non worm gear baitcast reel is innovative but I have not one lick of experience with them

I looked at them as well - cool concept, and in theory should give you longer casting distances as they say. So far, I've never handled one or know anyone who has.

I have 2 that I fished with last year.  Absolutely no issues.  I used 14 lb fireline.   Previously I used a Shimano Spirex (2500 size) on a 6'3" medium light rod to throw jerkbaits (primarily Pointers - 100).  The US Reel 240 SX, same line, same rod, same bait, extended my range considerably - 15 to 30 feet depending on the wind.  I like the reel enough that when I found them on sale, I bought 2 more.

For what it is worth, Guido & Dian Hibdon arenow using US Reels.  Guido had represented Diawa for like, forever.  Rogers Lures in Liberty, Mo has the US reels on sale right now for $50.

Anyway, I've used 2 of them for about a year and I've had a no issues with them.

Anyone own a Jag in the 60's?  When it rained they wouldn't start, then Ford took them over and the quality dramatically changed.  Past performance is not always a measure of future quality.  I have a friend using a modern us spinning reel and it's very sweet.
