Applications for 6.3 gear ratio reel..........????

Featured Replies

What application can I use a 6.3 ratio for?

Right now I have a Daiwa Fuego 6.3 with a 7' mh fast action for spinnerbaits.

But I have an extra 6.3 Daiwa advantage from an old setup and need to know what I can use it for so I can buy the right rod specs.

Frog? Jig? Topwater? Is 6.3 too fast for crankbaits? Thanks for the help.

you could use it for cranks, just slow it down slightly.

I think of the 6.3 ratio reels as "all purpose" type reels.  You can fish most techniques well with that ratio.  I use them for everything from crankbaits and topwaters to jigs and worms.

Actually, the Fuego retrieves 28 IPT, so that particular reel is not that slow (the Curado 200E7, which is listed as a 7.0:1, also retrieves 28 IPT).  I am not sure what the Advantage's IPT are, but as everyone else said above, a true 6.3:1 ratio reel (I am classifying this as a 24 to 27 IPT type reel) can be used for everything.

That is a good all purpose speed for all applcations. It is fast enough to "burn it" and slow enough to where if you slow down, you can slow roll a spinnerbait at the bottom. Good all around choice!

Just use your reels for what you fish with....you'll adjust, and develop preferences. People tend to over complicate this. Gear Ratio is just that, IPT is what you want to use as a reference point.
