Rods made for more than one technique.

Featured Replies

Im wanting to but rod/reels for specific techniques, but i came to realize I dont have the money to fill that many setups. I was wondering which techniques you guys thought could be grouped together into one rod. I have a 5.3:1, 6.3:1 6.4:1, and a 7.1:1. With those reel ratios, what technique rods would you guys match them with? I have a crankbait rod to go with the 5.3 and im pretty sure about that one, and a spinnerbait rod but not sure which reel it should be matched with yet. (I already have my spinning gear setups, just need my casting gear straight.) thanks.

Maybe this will help:

Specifically:

Technique specific rods are for "enthusiasts".

Almost all your fishing can be done with just

one rod. Beyond that, you only "need" three rods:

Spinning: 6 1/2' or 7', M or MH, Fast Action

(soft plastics and light lures)

Baitcasting: MH or H, Fast Action

(jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and all single hooks)

Baitcasting: MH, Moderate Action

(all treble hook lures)

Here is another thread currently running with

specific recommendations:

You def got the crank setup right. Most of my reels are 7:1. I really like to have fast reels for flipping and pitching, jigs, buzzbaits and frogs. I use my 6.3:1 reels for lipless cranks, square billed cranks, and topwater baits. I've used both speeds for spinnerbaits and think they both work fine. I like to cover water and fish fairly fast so the quick reels fit my style better.
