Square Bill Crankbait setup

Featured Replies

What line and rod setup are you using for square bill cranks like RC 1.5-2.5 & Little Johns?

Thanks for your input.

6'10"MH Carrot Stix Gold/Daiwa Sol/12lb P-line floroclear

Shimano Compre- CPC-C70MB, Medium Power, Moderate Action. Paired with a Citica 200E with 12lb. Trilene XL

I think this is a great, budget conscious set-up. Look around a bit and you can put this together for <$200 total. Line too!

I believe that it's "Powell" that makes a Square Bill Crankbait specific rod. I have to experience with this rod though.

St Croix Legend Tournament 7' med. power/fast action "teaser" rod w/ a TD Fuego spooled up with Trilene 100% 12lb fluorocarbon, in moderate cover like banging them against a seawall or dock post's, through moderate grass etc.... If I need to really crash them through thick laydowns, or over top over heavy weeds, I bump up to my St Avid 7' MH/fast, with a TD Tierra and 15lb Trilene fluoro. I have never been a big fan of "cranking" rods when squarebills and cover mix.
