Arkie head vs. football head

Featured Replies

I'm looking to do more of fishing in the rocks with a hula grub type bait and jig head. Which style of jig head goes through the rocks better ?

I personally have had better luck with the football head, not to say you won't get hung up, but the "bow and arrow" technique usually will get them unstuck.  Arkies tend to bury in more - jmo

I am very new to the jig game, but if you are fishing em in the rocks , no matter what you are going to loose a few.

 Around here we don't have much rock unless it's riprap but I would like to know if ya'll find a type that goes thru small Y's or crotches of branches fairly. I know that you can usually pull them on thru (maybe ;D) but by then you've really messed up that area :P...

We fish rock all the time, and it doesn't matter much what head you're fishing, you will hang up (especially if you have chunk and larger rock). They just tend to find the cracks.

On balance, though, the footblall head will do better, b/c it's wider.

For me, wood = Arkie style head

Rocks = football head

I use the football head in weights of 1/4 oz. up to 1 oz.

No matter what you will loose some, but if you are dishing it correctly the chances of loosing footballs is less imo.

One of my favorite combos is a GYCB hula grub black with blue flake and a weed wacker jig from tru tungsten. This setup has worked great for me but around rocks it's about the same as anything else.

The football is better in rocks than the arke.  I have found that the banana is better than the football.

i would suggest a football head however you should not leave everything on the bait. it is also a matter of presentation. Usually when you hop the bait instead of draging it is far more better..
