Finesse fishing

Featured Replies

Can you use a baitcaster for finesse fishing?  I hear and read that spinning tackle is the way to go when fishing finesse.   Any comments or suggestions.

Depends how light you go with "finesse" fishing. Anything under 1/4 oz and I'd recommend spinning gear.

Finesse fishing is more about an attitude than any particular gear.  You can finesse fish with bait casting gear and you can power fish with spinning gear.

Thank you for that post.  I was just contemplating how to type up the same.

Couldn't have said that any better.

If you're specifically talking about lighter weight baits; yes, you can use a baitcaster.  Just make sure you have a reel that is capable of tossing out lightweight lures.  You'll need a rod to match it as well.

If I plan on using anything under 1/8 oz, I'll switch to spinning though.

Some smaller reels with shallower, lighter spools, like the Daiwa Pixy, Daiwa SOL, Shimano Curado 50, Shimano Curado 100D, Shimano Core 50mg, etc can throw light lures well.

i love baitcasting but for smaller lures that are really light spinning is the way to go.
