knot preference

Featured Replies

I usually use improved clench on everything but crankbaits but lately it seems like palamar has been working better on everything i use. does anyone know any knot thats similar and works just the same

stick with the improved clinch, and remember to pull the tag end tight first before you pull the hook tight. some recently acquired knowledge that helped me

I use a palomar on everthing without problems

Try the Trilene knot.

Use your improved clinch knot but go through the eye of the lure twice.

I've notice how much more difficult it is to get loose when you're hung up. Yes the Palomar knot is the best, but is a bother sometimes on lures.

I use the glockschlinger knot. It has never failed and is exponentially stronger than any other knot. Since the "best knot" question has been asked umpteen thousand times, I decided to invent my own knot so I could post a response that would not be echoed by everyone else.

Mike I've been using the glockschlinger knot for years. :-? For most applications the 9mm version works well. For larger diameter lines the .45 is my favorite. ;D

I use Palomar and Trilene knots. Both are great, Trilene knot is a little stronger.

I don't think that the trilene knot is stronger than the palomar. Not even close in my eyes

Uni knot for hard baits. Soft baits snelling the hook is always the way to go.

Albright special for braid to leader, San Diego Jam for any mainline and/or leader to terminal, and milller knot for dropshot.

Thank tackletog for the albright and miller knots.

I use palomar on anything that isnt rediculously long, for obvious reasons. Or also depending on the test line i use. 10#+ likes the clinch or improved clinch, where as my 8# likes palomar and the clinch's slip. I'll use an albright to attach line, or a snell and whatnot, but those two knots are the main ones i use. I use a rapala also on a few baits.

I gave a video about knot testing to my fishing partner where various knots were tested on a machine that measured the pound rating at which the knot broke. Trilene knot rated best at @ 100 % the line rating, the Palomar rated at @ 95% the line rating, and improved clinch at @ 75% line rating. They also tested many more knots that I've never used.
