I did not have a good experience with braided line during my last outing.  I broke off 3 fish during my hookset or within about 5 seconds afterwards using 50 lb spiderwire.

My line was nearly brand new and I tried both a palomer and improved clinch knot.  Both failed, I am guessing it must have something to do with my knot. This line should not be breaking that easily.

Is there a different knot I should use with braid?  I have never had any problems with the two knots with mono or fluorocarbon.  Any other suggestions besides possible knot failure?

I would have to say its the knot. I use the polamar for everything never had a problem. And with 50lb braid I can't imagine its the line unless its defective. The only other thing I can think of is braid isn't  very abrassion resistant so maybe that's your problem depending on what your fishing it in.

You should also wet your knots before you cinch them down the friction can weaken the line.

I hope you're leaving at least 1/4" to 3/8" tag with your terminal knot.  Coated braids will slip a little.

There's your problem, Spiderwire is junk for knots IMO. Pick up some PowerPro, Fireline, or Daiwa Samurai

Like they said be sure to leave a little longer tag and definitely wet the line well before cinching down the knot.

In my experience Spiderwire seems to cut into itself. Diawa Samuari is the way to go.

I'm sure the Daiwa line is amazing, but for my $$ Tufline XP is the way to go. Softer and smoother than PP. I've used the Palomar and Trilene knots with it and only had one I don't understand moment when a freshly tied lure broke off on a cast, however that day I had landed about a dozen Pickerel and I'm pretty sure they nicked the line.

$11-$15 a spool at the big outlets.

Spiderwire cuts itself, between that and too short of a tag end that may be your problem.

Thanks for the suggestions, I always wet my line but I will try leaving a longer tag end to see if that helps.  If that doesn't work, I will try another brand.

Just finished watching the "Knot Wars". The Berkley Braid Knot beat all comers plus last year's winner, the Fish-N-Fool Knot. I use the Uni Knot. It is the Fish-N-Fool Knot with one loop through the hook eye instead pf two. According to the show's host all knots are now tied with 2 loops through the eye as all knots have proven to be stronger using this method.

However, I haven't had a knot break yet. I'm using 40 Sufix Performance Braid. Used Power Pro the past 2 years when visiting Florida. My brother-in-law said he has never lost a lure since switching to PP. Don't know for sure which knot he uses, but think it is the Uni.

I recently got caught and couldn't break the snag loose by hand. Wrapped the Sufix around a chunk of limb and managed to pull my whole rig out. Uni Knot may not be the strongest, but it is plenty strong.

Just spring for the Samuri, and forget it..The stuff lasts for a long time. Either a palomar, or double loop uni works fine, even with 4oz swimbaits..

Spiderwire braid is kinda like the Stren of flourocarbon.

Get you some decent braid, wet it before tying up the knot and you should be fine.

I've been using Berkley Fireline in moss color And love it. Its very responsive, strong and also nice and limp any backlashes are minimal and easy to pick out. I also haven't had any problems with the dye running.

A few years back when I was flipping in a tournament. I was using 55lb powerpro pegged texas rigged beaver with a 3/4oz weight. I snapped off three fish on the hookset. I wondered what had failed... I had the line wet, polomar knot tied perfectly. I came to the conclusion that when I layed into the fish with my 7'6 hvy rod the line would snap due to fast high pressure with no stretch in the line. I still do not know exactly what the deal was, but thats my conclusion. It may be the same deal for you, but coming undone after the hookset is different then what I experienced.
