I'm about to place an order in for a Dobyns rod and wondering which of these 2 would be the better choice. I'm leaning towards the DX743. You're input would be greatly appreciated.

Just went with the 743 myself.  The only difference that I could see was the 743 is 3" longer.  Just a little extra casting distance, and slightly different balance point.

Tough call.

What are you going to be using it for? I have the DX 703c and its my go-to trig and jig rod. for these applications I personally don't need the 3 extra inches due to the loss of accuracy in casting I have a 735c Champion i use for pitching and frogs and a 736c Champion for flipping and punching. (due to transportability of rods in Korea, IE friends cars and such, I'm limited to 7'3" rods.)

This is just me though. How you want to use the rod and how you fish will dictate the length you need I find my accuracy when skipping becomes a problem when I use longer than 7' so getting under floating docks becomes more difficult for me when using long rods. But again that's just me.

Thanks for the input guys. I was gonna use it as an all around rod for spinnerbaits & maybe light swimbait duties. I don't have a lot of cover where I fish & it's mainly open water. I think the 743 might work for me.

Definitely the 743... Longer rods really help with setting the hook, moving more line, and casting further! You will be very pleased!

I was wrong... it's not 3" longer...it's 4" longer.

The 743 is one of the most versatile rods out there. It does alot of things good and a few things great. This is my favorite rod out of my arsenal.  8-)

The G2 rods went to all fast actions, although the added length causes it to bend just a tad more. The shorter the rod, the slightly stiffer it is with these rods.

The Champions are 7'3 and the Extremes are 7'4 with these models.

Always go with the longer rod when you can.. I switched even my spinning rods to 7'4 and there's a major difference.

I'd get the longer of the two.
