budget pitching rod and reel

Featured Replies

im looking for a budget pitching rod and reel. i was thinking the bps pq 7.1:1 with bps extreme 7' heavy rod. what do you think. i am open to suggestions and really dont want to go over $150

I can't really comment on the pro qualifier, but I have three extreme rods and I like them alot. My favorite is a 7" medium heavy I use for texas rigs. I bought all three in the off season around the holidays on sale. A good buy!! Good luck!

Sounds like a solid combo. Pro Qualifiers are sweet, and although I don't have that extreme, the ones I have are nice for the price.

Pitching is a casting technique.  You can do it with any rod and reel.

I've never used an Extreme.  The PQ's are a solid reel for most situations.

Sounds like a good combo to me !

And especially since its Christmas time they may throw in a few goodies as well  ;)

id look for a Shimano Compre rod over the Extreme. the Extremes are a heavy stick. the Falcon Original isnt the worst idea either but BPS is sort of skinning on them.

I've got lots of PQs and Extreme rods - good values for the money. The PQ is a great deal at it's regular price, and a killer deal when on sale. There are better rods than the Extreme at it's regular $100 price - but it's a pretty good value when on sale. You may already know but that rod and reel are on sale right now in the BPS Christmas catalog (PQ-$70, Extreme-$60). With shipping, that puts you right about at your $150 price point. The sale ends tomorrow ...

If you don't have it - the Christmas catalog number is 10 022 AAAR

PQ 7.1 catalog # - RH 22-352-872-00 / LH 22-352-870-00

Extreme 7'H catalog # - 22-156-752-00

I also have some Extremes and they're by no means bad sticks. And with braid, they are sensitive enough. Like others said, maybe a Compre or a Fenwick HMX could also be considered.

Yep, get them when on sale. Also, keep an eye on the BPS clearance section on-line - I got an Extreme rod last winter for only $39 ;)

The PQ reel will do a fine job pitching. They are excellent reels. The Extremes are decent rods for the money. I would recommend handling them before buying. A MH-F Extreme is a pretty stout stick.

i have handled them and they dont feel heavy at all. stiff yes but i want a stiff stick. i will look at the mh-f but i wont be able to get there until the fishing classic

7'6 mh or 7'3 hvy vendetta. GREAT idea about the pro qualifier. I have 2 now and am about to pull the trigger on a 3rd. This coming from a DIE HARD revo and daiwa user.
