Crankin rod for ripping lipless 1/2 oz- 3/4 oz lures

Featured Replies

I looking to purchase a new crank bait rod for lipless crankbaits & medium divers (up to 10 ft). I am leaning toward a Avid 7'0 MF & powell 704C crank rod. Have anyone used the Powell rod or whats out there?

Avid AVC70MM is just what you need!

RW I knew you say that but if I buy a MM rod Hands down it would be the Avid MHM for more versatility. I can throw almost any cranks.

Last year I picked up a Shimano Compre TC4 crankbait rod just for throwing lipless cranks.I grabbed the 7' med 8-17lb 1/4-3/4oz mediumfast. This rod was paired up with a Diawa Supertuned Advantage. I absolutely love throwing my Aruku Shads with this set up.

I use an LTBC70MF for ripping lipless baits.

Does the LTB 7"MF have a soft enough tip for cranks

Actually the tip is about the same as a MM rated rod, but less of the rod flexes, the but the medium power of the rod offers plenty of flex to protect the trebles.  When you're ripping traps through weeds, a faster taper works better. The rod itself reacts quicker to you snapping the lure off the weeds, which means less fouling.

+1.

A 3/4 oz trap will easily overpower a M/M rod, especially if you're ripping them or fishing them aggressively.  I prefer fishing them on the same tackle I would use for mid-sized spinnerbaits, a 7' M/F or 7' 3" MH/F.

BT I have a Kistler Crank rod & it does not rip threw the grass but cleans the grass out of the lake. That's why I am leaning toward a MF rod with a soft tip or a MH fast rod which most would rate really a Mod fast.

There you go.  Good plan.

Be careful with St. Croix's MH-F.  Its a bit heavier than most other manufacturers.  You'll know what's right when you get it in your hands.

Those two techniques (lipless in grass and medium divers) require two different rods.

For lipless in grass, you've got to have backbone.  A crankbait specific rod is just too limber to be effective.

i use two different rods on ripping cranks through the grass

Power Tackle Paragon Cast Rod 7'6" Med Hvy/Mod Fast

Power Tackle Paragon Crank Cast Rod 7'3" Composite
