Hey all.. Ive already made up my mind that I want the Okuma Trio High speed reel.. I wanna use it for drop shotting and shakey heads....  which reel should I use.. i need opinions!!

one is the trio 30s and the other is 40s

one holds 110yards of 10lb test and one holds 190yards..  the weights are 10.4 for the smaller one... 10.8 for the bigger one..

opinions?

For "regular" or "typical" dropshotting for bass, people usually choose a size 20 (2000) or 25 (2500).

Those reels are a bit on the overkill side and if they hold that much of 10# test, they will hold even more of the 4-8# test usually used in "regular" drop shotting.

I'd go with the 30 if not smaller, unless I was going to drop shot deep all of the time.

8/160 for the 30s

8/270 for the 40s..  so the 30?

get the smallest, you will regret having to much capacity because it will weight more.

I have a Trio 20, standard, not the orange high speed. Its a pretty small reel, I'd say get the 30 if you are dead set on the high speed.  I would only fill the spool about 3/4 of the way full anyways.

They look pretty cool, but that weight would be a deal breaker for me.  :-/

If you are fishing deep for smallmouth, ignore all specs except IPT and check the drag.  Smaller reels have low IPT by virtue of small spool circumference.  I find that a Daiwa 2500 or Shimano 2500 work equally as well.  The Daiwa has a lower gear ratio, but the ACS spool makes up for that.  My main drop shot reel is a Stradic CI4.

Between the two Okuma reels, I'd say the larger one.  No one is going to feel the difference in .4 oz.  But if it were to me, I wouldn't use either - too heavy. 

IPT on the Pflueger Supreme and XT is very high. I use 8030 Supremes. Great reel. Even without some wizz bang line management they are GREAT line managing reels. Very light, fast, smooth, and only 100 bucks.

I've picked up a couple for less than $90 shipped, one was less than $85 shipped.

Match the lightest reel you can to the rod you select. Capacity is not an issue as you are usually only fishing <40' below you. I want to have about 100 yards of 6# test fluoro on the reel and one with the fastest line retrieve speed. When that smallie nails your ds worm 25' down, it has only one goal. Get to the surface as fast as it can! You gotta have a reel that sucks up line in a hurry - and the skill to back reel with a tightened down drag.

Thanks! I'll go with the 30s then.. I dont really care about the weight of a reel.. especially a spinning reel because I rarely use them.. But the new okumas look pretty sweet.. a buddy of mine has the Trio and loves it.. so I think I will like the High speed just as much..
