Kistler rod diferences

Featured Replies

What is the difference between the Magnesium and Helium rod series besides cosmetics?  Is there a difference in blank sensitivity?

I'm sure there is a blank difference.  I had a 7'H magnesium and currently have a 7'H Helium II.  Honestly, besides the Helium being slightly lighter and more sensitive, I can't tell much of a difference, the balance feels very similar, in a bad way though, just doesn't feel very well balanced.

I had a mg and have a ltx also.  K W's opinion is the same as mine.

I was looking at both series rods with the micro guides.  Is the Helium worth the extra cost?

weight and sensitivity wise there is  a difference between the two series. though i never fished the micro series rods. balance and sensitivity increases as the models progress from the mg, lta's and ltx's.

I have the helium lta and a micro mag.  The lta feels much better than the mag,  lighter and more sensitive. I plan on buying more of the heliums.

I look forward to giving my new Helium II a good fair shot at Guntersville in April, kinda hard to get it on the water and make a completely fair comparison when the lakes are hard, 50* one week and 15* the next...it's been a very odd winter.

And as a bonus, you'll soon get 243 e-mails a day from Kistler telling you how great they are, or you can now buy the rod you just paid full price for at a 50% discount if you buy a more expensive one ::D I like there rods............but they are ridiculous...........kind of like BPS with the catalogs.

the mags have a quicker action to them than the LTA's, theyre a bit softer as well.   good for medium to shallow cranks, poppers and lightweight plastics presentations. the LTA is my rig when fishing in the slop, fishing deep with jigs, cranks and worms. also a proper frog rod. LTa's got the mags beat on sensitivity also

Rod will mainly be used to fish for striper with fluke type lures on jig heads up to 1 oz in the CA aqueduct and occasionaly for bass in some of the local lakes like Castaic and DVL.

I did message Trey Kistler and join the mailing list.  He stated the Magnesium's are 30 ton graphite and the Helium's are 40 ton graphite.  He also recommended the Mag because of the greater strength of the 30 ton material.

I'm still undecided on which one to get because I already have a 7'6"  MH Abu Garcia Vendetta which is also 30 ton graphite and I want something with greater sensitivity.

The Helium does have more sensitivity than the mag rod. I have 3 of the heliums and about 5 of the mags. They are both great rods. The helium would be a great rod for the application you will be using it for. I personally like the mag because of the feel. I also bought a couple of the new z bones, now you want to talk about sensitivity, these rods are almost to sensitive. But yeah, the helium does have a little more sensitivity.

Yea, agreed.  Recently the unsolicited emails have been excessive.
