Favorite Knot for Braid to Fluro?

Featured Replies

1.If using braid for Carolina rigging, it can be quite a jolt on the hookset. What knot do most prefer for fluro?

2.Also what's the preferred knot for joining braid to fluro?

To attach terminal tackle I use a palomar knot whether it is mono or fluoro.

For braid > leader I use a uni to uni knot the majority of the time. I've heard the strength is fairly low (maybe 50-60% knot strength?), but if I'm using 30lb+ braid and a 14-16lb leader it's something I can live with. The main reason I tie the uni to uni is simply because it's easy and takes very little time to retie if I have to.

I've heard of people tying an albright knot for braid > leader and tried it a few times. It's supposed to have higher knot strength but was a pain for me to tie. Granted I didn't practice tying it a lot, I just find the uni to uni works well enough for my purpose.

improved clinch with braid (8-10 wraps, double or triple through the eye)

Palomar Knot with Fluoro. San Diego Jam is better but not as easy to tie. ;)

I use Uni to Uni as well.

For any line to leader connection the Albright Special or Alberto are about as good as they get.  Ultra compact knot, very easy to tie, and far stronger than other line to line splices.

For line to lure, especially with fluoro, I'm a big fan of the 16-20 knot (aka Pitzen knot, aka 6 turn hangmans noose).

For my leader, I double my braid with either a 3 turn surgeons loop or a bimini twist then tie a uni/uni.

And he is going to tie them a lot better in a few days!
