Featured Replies

I'm going crazy here trying to pick a rod... I told everyone I could get the premier st.croix rods for 35% off, so reg price 140 ( top end) for 91 bucks now, then I came across the new line of carrot stix micro for 99 what would you do?! I've never used either but I've heard lots of good about both.. The rods I need are.. Weightless plastic rod and a jerkbait, which manufacturer would you go with?

id go with st. croix their a top notch rod mfg. 140 is a good deal if it a tournament a really good deal if its an xtream

Premiers usually are around 100 or so. If they have them priced for 140 and there 35% its still a good deal but there original price seems high. As for the carrot sticks I haven't used them so I cannot comment. St croix is a good rod and from what I hear the carrot sticks are pretty good also. I dont think you could go wrong either way.

In this case I would go with the tried and true quality of the st. croix.

The MSRP range is $110 for 6' med power to $140 for the 7' heavy power.

Go with the St. Croix Premier. It's my favorite rod around $100. With your 35% off discount you'll be paying around $80 bucks.

I'd go with the St Croix. I won't name names, but I was told by someone that works at a well known tackle supplier that of the rods they get returned because of breakage the carrot sticks outnumber the others by more than 3 to 1. He didn't say if that was the new ones or the older models.

That being said, the Abu Garcia Veritas rods are getting great reviews from just about everyone.  If you want a micro guide rod for under $100  Cabella's has thier Prodigy micro guide rods discounted right now for $79,  it's normally $99.  I haven't used one personaly, but once again they get outstanding reviews and have been mentioned on this board more than a few times.  There is an optional $14 ballancing kit you can get to customize the feel even more.

St. Croix... Great rod for the money especially at a discount.

I've got over 20 St. Croix rods and the only one I've ever broken was a 6' light Triumph which I've heard of the Triumphs breaking before. All the rest are premiers or above and have never had a problem. I've broken 100% of the Carrot Sticks I've owned. I've only had one but I'm a fast learner  :D.

good choice on the St. Croix.  The handle on the Carrot Stix Wild is really fat and not well shaped in my opinion.

I used a premier baitcaster for years.  Caught my PB northern and bass on it.  Lots of good memories.  Not the most sensitive stick in the world,  but a good solid rod thats well worth the $.

You can not go wrong with St Croix.  Their customer service is top notch and you can also use their upgrade program if and when you decide to move up to an Avid or another one of their rods.
