does anybody use super glue on their knots ? i think it just adds a little insurance

None at all.  Really, it's not going to help much IMO.  Super glue was used on line to leader connections mainly to smooth the knot out so it would slip through the guides easier.  I seriously doubt it's going to help a properly tied knot become any stronger.  The only fix for a crap knot is to retie it right.

i use it from main line to leader, but not on line to lure.

I'd be worried about it reacting with my leader material and making it weaker. It wouldn't do any good to make the knot stronger if you're making the line next to the knot weaker.

i use it all the time on braid to keep the tag from fraying.it also makes it impossible for the knot to slip.

When tying leaders at home I'll brush a little glue on the braid as Dodgeguy does.  I don't bother with glue if I'm tying a leader on in the boat, instead I'll leave the braid tag at least 1/2" long to accommodate any slippage.

i have a mental hangup with long tags.

If the tag was long wouldn't that cause it to hang up on the guides as it passes up the rod and reduce casting distance??  I'm assuming you reel the knot all the way in so the lure is hanging only inches from the rod tip though.

The tag of the braid line doesn't cause much problem as braid is quite supple.  I wouldn't leave the tag of a fluoro leader that long, although I do leave a fluoro tag at the terminal connection at least 3/8".

I trim my tags like I do fingernails, a 1/16 inch short of drawing blood.   ;D  I figure if the knot slips then having a longer tag isn't going to help, it will just unravel anyway.  I'm fanatical about making sure the knot seats right and is tied correctly anyway.  If in doubt I always cut and retie, several times if it takes it.

My life's philosophy about fishing knot tag ends... if it's not hanging up on something, it doesn't need trimming.

Do not think it helps much.  SoFlaBassAddict is right on about retieing.  If knot is crap you will not be able to land a Bluegill with or without super glue.

I don't use it, and probably never will.

A knot tied properly does not need any added strength. A good knot will hold a stampeding bull elephant, at least a bull dolphin,  A cauterized tag end is better than glue to insure against pull thru.

like i said i do it to keep the tag end neat.anyextra dtrengh it adds to a properly tied knot is a plus.you are correct that a properly tied knot is a must.
