Taking a trip to minnesota need some info on it

Featured Replies

Me and my family are going up to minnesota to got fishing this summer we cant figure out which lake to go to.  I said that we have to go to a lake that has norther pike or muskie.  My dad does not want to go to one of the giant lake just a good size one.

If any one could let me in on some good spots it would be of great help.

We have like a million lakes up here....ok, maybe just 10,000.  What part of Minnesota were you planning on taking the trip to?  Do you want to go to a commercialized area, or more rural?

Yea. If your near the twin cities stop by Lake Minnetonka or Forest Lake. Up north? Stop at Mantrap. Ham Lake and Coon Lake are good for large bass and nice pike.

I would second mantrap if you are in the Park rapids area...

Bemidji area I would go to Lk Bemidji, Plantagaenet, Cass lake, Wolf, Little Wolf, Big, or even Leech though it's huge.  Most of these lake also offer other species to target as well.

if your looking for a small lake there is one called spitzer (i think) that has some big ones in it. the guy i know has caught a couple six# and at least one over seven. it is a very small lake though

Don't overlook Gull lake either, located in central MN.  In many ways I think it is the best, if not the most underrated, bass lake in the state.  There are some big monsters in there, as well as numbers.

If smallmouth are your thing, don't forget about the beautiful lake Vermillion.

Both lakes are primarily thought of as walleye lakes, but the bass fishing is world class.

Just jioned the forum but if your still interested in Minnesota lakes dont overlook the alexandria area. Excelent bucket and small mouth lakes. Lake Miltona is full of 5 plus lb bass and musky over 50". Overall the area is excellent for any kind of fishing you or your family would like. Let me know if i can give you more details should you decide to come this way.  Good luck

Welcome  ;)

If you stop by Coon Lake or Ham Lake i can label hot spots on a map for you.

if your in the duluth area, there is a smaller lake called "Island Lake"  lots of shore access and you can catch smallmouth bass, pike, muskie, walleye and panfish.  that was my main lake when i lived there, but i was more into the pike and walleye than the smallies (idiot!!)

Cliff

P.S. also there is a TON of touristy things to do in duluth!!   ;D

Hey Daiwa,

I have a JR club tourney on Coon coming up in July.  Would you help me out by marking some spots for me as I have never fished the lake?  Thanks.  If you're ever in the west metro drop me a line.  I know alot of the lakes pretty well out that way.
