What is the best tackle selection and presentation on water temp around 50 degrees.  Im in so cal and having a heck of a time hooking up with fish this time of the year.

My choices would be suspending jerk bait, jig and grub and spinner bait in that order.

their is many different lures and techniques that will work in winter, especially in So Cal, so i would suggest just slowing down and really fishing areas slow and thoroughly.

Welcome to BR, Frank4747!!!  I would recommend Senkos T-rigged or Wacky and weightless. I have had some good luck with 4" coffee and watermelon colored tubes on a jighead as well. Will be trying Fat Ika's this weekend. In So CA, dropshotting is producing a lot of bass at the local lake I fish. Seems the "secret" is to fish SLOW and be patient. Hope that helps!!

It depends on what the water temp was before it got to 50. If it is warming up to 50, then moving baits will work well. If it is cooling to 50 then slow bottom bumping bait would be the best choice. If the temps have been steady at 50 for several days then a slow worked moving bait will be the best choice (suspending jerkbait).

if you can find any stained shallow tributaries i like to shallow crank up untill the spawn. beats slowing down.

For me, 50 degree water means suspending jerkbaits, smoke grubs, and jigging spoons.

Suspending jerkbait, shad rap, jig, finesse tube, and 300 Bandit CB in Craw color.

If all else fails throw a shaky head wom on 3/16 oz head deep.
