So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?

Featured Replies

I'll be in Eufaula, Al all next week fishing ABA Nationals. I'm going as a boater ranked 288th in a field of 500. That is, by far, the worst I've ever done over the course of a year in ABA. There won't be 500 fishermen there. Heck probably won't even be 288 there.

About the Bend w/low water. I had absolutely no problems getting around - none at all. I did discover a few unmarked lanes that I laid down trails on so when the water comes back up I can run where I used to idle. Should have done more of it, marking running lanes. At least then I would have been productive at something. I did note on a E-W boat lane, #4 I think, that about 1/2 way across there is a tree pretty much in the middle of the lane. Might'a been a floater - might'a not been too. When the water comes up six inches it won't be seen.

Had 30lbs today and my dad had 14lbs in our club tournament. Our best 5 combined was 33lbs. I had 3 fish between 7- 10lbs jump off. My big fish i caught was 9.5lbs.  Lots of tournaments coming up, but

  • Well two days in & only 3 fish ?   But one was tagged BassCashBash which I was registered in, it won me a 2019 Dodge Ram!

I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

@Dougw good luck at Eufaula ?

On Toledo Bend it's my understanding the better fish are coming from the back of creeks, look for schools of larger shad.

Gold, black back, orange belly lipless 1/4 oz, 4-5" swimbaits on under spins, & Wacky Rigged Trick Worms.

Thank you Dougw. Real report there. Good luck in Eufaula. Kinda still hunting right now but hope to return the favor on fishing reports soon.

Catt I thought it might be to shallow to get back in the creeks. With these cold fronts coming in I was thinking secondary points since the lakes so low and still dropping. That's if the baits back there. Thanks for the info

Thanks for the report dougw. Tough time, but you're still on the water so good times. Next time you'll hammer them.

164.88'  ?

At this lake level

The creek channels will be easy to see

Navigation may be difficult only because ya have to slow down.

I'm more concerned with these cold fronts than lake level.

Im available this weekend if anyone would like to meet up near the Army rec site to go fishing. I dont have a boat but im able to rent one or Ill buy lunch.

Good point...Let's hope there's not a large fish kill from this front.

Was thinking about the shad if you got the cold rain and weather we got down here. Has Toledo turned over yet?

The shad kill happens every year on the big pond. It's natural and a good thing.

The bass really put the feed bag on when they find a good point to sit on under a shad kill.

I moved here from South Florida and we'd have the same, but we'd lose some bass to. Always seemed after a big shad kill. Florida lakes are pretty shallow though. I'm heading up the the on the 23rd for a few days. If I leave with a few good pics and my lower unit it'll be a good trip ?

Good luck and leave me a few for when I return to bass fishing in January.

Thanks and I don't think that'll be a problem. There will be plenty for you.

Heading to the Big Pond in a couple days. Any Advice? Staying at San Miquel, but I'll head to Cypress to put in too.

Drive slow and keep your head on a swivel. Lots of stumps and a bunch if floaters on San Miguel right now.

Hey no problem. That's what we here for.

I would check out any deep water ledges next to the main channel first then move to shallow creeks and drains that have the wind pushing shad up into them.

cool will do. I haven't been on the lake in years so it being so low is like a whole new lake and style of fishing.

What are you guy's thoughts on fishing this coming weekend?  Do you think it is worth dragging the boat 3.5 hours?  Thanks.

There is a big cold front hitting here friday. Lots of rain and temps dropping into the low 30's at night. Day time high of mid 50's.

Is what my weather app is showing me.

Edit.

Just updated cold front hitting Thursday. Showing freezing temps for Thursday night into Friday morning.
