Melvin was extra tight again for us today. Two over 3# in the first hour. Many more close to it. Probably close to a 40 fish day. Conor's big was 3.10, and mine was 3.4. And I think that day we did cast and blast was even later than that, maybe the 15th. I know we went there because everything in the area was frozen. I think the fishing for us that day was a little tougher than what you and Drew experienced though.

Finally got the video from Gardner Thursday night to upload. Of course not as impressive knowing we needed at least 2 more big bites to even contend for first place, but still worth watching. Had to throw some music in the first portion. Between the frustration of not getting any bites, doing our best Ike yelling at the dog at Grand impressions, and the disbelief of catching 2 fish over 3 pounds off the same dock at Gardner, there was a lot of foul language flying around the boat.

 

And if anyone wants to know how to catch dinks at Olathe.

Planning to hit melvern soon. Concerned a little about wind. I fish out of a lowe stinger 160, 16 foot long modified V bottom. When I check the weather, what should I definitely avoid (about a 90 mile drive and would hate to be kept off the water by waves). Is there a particular wind direction and speed that I should look for somewhere else to fish.

The wind and chop isn't ever that bad. I fish out of a 16' Alumacraft deep V and I make runs up and down the lake all day with no problems at all.

I'm actually going to disagree with you on this one Brian. Chris and I fished a club tournament there in march that had such bad chop we thought we were gonna pee blood. Now, I will also say we ran all the way down to the bridge, and the further you went down, the worse it got. I've been on that lake a whoppin 4 times, so I'm unsure of the wind direction or speed that would give you problems.

I have a very similar boat, just longer, and anything over 20 mph takes all the fun out of motoring across the main lake. Wind direction doesn't really matter because you can find a place to fish, but a West wind can really build up some chop.

 

I wouldn't fish Melvern the fishing isn't any good.

He's rolling a mod v though.  East isn't too bad since the dam blocks some of it.

Clayton and I were out there one day a few years ago with a VERY strong north wind and that was a little bit scary. The wind coming out of those coves on the north swirls and creates some pretty rough water. Our fish/ski can handle it, but I definitely don't like being out there when the wind is like that.

 

And yes, a strong east/west wind out there is an absolute nightmare!

Like we'd said before though, the fishing there sucks anyway so you're better off just going to Hillsdale, or Pomona.

Peter tried to launch his ranger once and got soaked by the waves crashing over the back of his boat. He ended up pulling out and going to the other end of the lake.

Alright so the wife and I moved to Lee's Summit from Olathe to be closer to work for her. Since I'm 30 minutes away from Micah and his Nitro   I need some places to fish if I am bored on a week night. Went out to James A Reed a week or so ago and managed a few fish with a decent one in the mix but wasn't all that impressed. We are situated kinda between Longview Lake and Jacomo. I am boatless so easy shore access would be preferred. I don't mind fishing a creek or river if they have a good offering. So if anybody has any good ideas (or a free boat that comes with storage) I'm all ears.
