South can still be good but it's a lot of dead water to find the productive spots if you don't know them.

Here are some pictures and the video from the giant I caught at LaCygne this weekend. She weighed 10 ls 15 oz and released to fight another day.

Fished LaCygne Sunday- I started up lake and noticed quite a few boats in the river section. I pitched flooded brush and water willows for a while ending up with one fish about 2lbs.

I usually fish the south end. Everytime I am there in the winter, the north end is full of boats.

Like you mentioned there is a lot of dead water on the south end, in winter.

there still are a few places that hold fish. unfortunately I could not get them to bite Wednesday.

This little warming trend has everything opened up. No need to go to the power plant lakes right now if you don't want to. Slow down, nothing moves fast in cold water including the forage. Barely twitching a small jerkbait and slowly bumping a Ned along caught several for me this afternoon. No big ones, but they're all fun this time of year, especially when you have the lake to yourself knowing the warm lakes are bumper to bumper.

If you're referring to my post, they're all largemouth. I was at Parker City Lake, no spots in there.

Cool, nice pics, that first and second one sure shows a lot of gold in the fish.  Good looking fish.

Went to Wolf Creek yesterday and there were only 8 boats when I got there about 8:30.  Another 5 or 6 showed up before I left.  Pretty tough for me.  Nothing at the outlet.  Went north and caught two LM, a huge crappie and got into some wipers at the bridge (8).  Still better  than not going.

SE Kansas grass grower

Went to La Cygne Saturday.  I think there was a tourney going on because it was packed.  Fished the east side rip-rap and got nothing, not even a bite.  We then said screw it and went to the outlet and at least caught about a dozen or wipers and 2 LM's.  I've never done the outlet there so that was an experience fishing in tight quarters and then also watching out for all of the people on land fishing the outlet.  At least it was nice to catch fish again at La Cygne becuase a few weeks ago we went there and caught nothing, not even a bite.

I'm curious what tournament and what the results were :)

Backlashers Hotwater Shootout, they do several each winter. 20 boats fished, 8 fish were weighed. Not sure what the winning weight was.

I was out there today. according to one of the locals, a 7 pound bass was the largest.

I caught 8 bass. none of them were over 18 inches.

I struggle out there in the winter. catch plenty of short fish, but can't seem to find many big girls, when it gets cold.

Now white bass are a different story. usually give up on them when my hands get raw from unhooking them.

Dang... that’s rough... 20 boats 8 fish?

When the weather is nice, the fishing will be tough at the power plant lakes, bank on it.

January through March are prime time for me to catch the big ones for me.

I get bored with the white bass really fast. They're not very big out there and the spines, gill plates, and strong desire to try to put a hook in me makes them pretty unappealing. Wipers on the other hand, I love catching, but they're always tough to locate.

This is the third year I have fished there.

I have not fished it much in January or February. Always had problem with cold fingers.

found a pair of  good gloves and plan on changing that this year.

Still fish to be caught in the cold water lakes. Only had an hour from the bank and caught about dozen and missed several more. Even caught a few on a float-n-fly, something I've never done much of but they seemed to like it pretty well. Bites are weird on it, the bobber just sinks basically.

All fish are were sniffed and given licks of approval.

It's tiny and doesn't have a paved ramp is probably why. It's the closest lake to my house though, and I can launch my johnboat or kayak no problems.

Looking for a used trolling motor  24 volt, 70+ lb thrust, not brand specific. Around $300. Anybody got anything?

3 over 18 at La Cygne Thursday and lost at least 3 more that would have been keepers. Just one of those days they were swiping at the bait instead of really eating it but they were biting at least so I can't complain too much. Biggest was a 4.89 and we caught fish from the bluffs to the dam and everywhere in between. White bass were hungry and we found them everywhere too. WT 48-61

Was it busy out there? I’m off of work until January 7th and am contemplating a trip down there on one of the nice-ish (but not too nice because I’ve heard that shuts them down at the powerplants) weekdays.

It was surprisingly quiet out there, maybe 10 boats at the most and some were crappie fishing. If you make it down on a Friday you could probably jump in the back of my boat. I don't promise anything other than to fish places where they live, if they bite or not is a whole other story.
