Meadowgrounds water update...PA

Featured Replies

So BAD K !  Whats your opinion on mapping the meadow grounds.

Is the lake worth it?  I'm thinking in 2009. Already booked for 2008.

I'd love to have a good map of the lake.  We know there is some structure there and have heard rumors of others.

I just don't want everyone else to have that info!

I'd be interested in helping with some mapping.  I have some background in maps and just picked up a depthfinder and chartplotter.  Haven't been out in a boat there but done some bank fishing.  How is the fishing there?

I have not been up there this year.

Last year was tough fishing.  The water level was very low due to work on the dam.  I'm hoping to hear an update so it doesn't cost me $50 in fuel to drive up there.

Your right about the price of fuel bad Karma42. Thats why I said 09. Takes me down to two lakes a year at best.  Yes! it would expose your secret spots. I screen  the whole lake just like the others and evrything (fishable structure) is exposed. A depthfinder and chart plotter ain't goin to help a whole lot. I I.D. the structure > not guess shadrap1769.  e-mail me and I'll give you my site.   Thanks for asking. Mark!

Roger that!  To answer your question about the lake being worth it...I couldn't say.  There are definately people that fish there.  I guess it comes down to if you can turn a profit on map sales vs. the time spent doing the work.

I think we talked last year that this area doesn't really have a lot of places to sell maps...or the type of locals to buy them.

But, I would have to seriously consider buying a map of that lake.

I desided to go with the great internet. Cost more for maps but no inventory for me .

With the small series of tournies I fish there, having a map would be great! I did learn a few things last year in the two outings I fished there. With the lake being as low as it was, I found a bunch of off shore struture that wasn't visible when the lake was up. Not sure if it was always there or they had added it over the winter. The last I had heard about the lake, the dam had been fixed so it should be back up or on its way back to a normal level.

Hey boatnik, what site are your maps going to be on?

Dont worry, I know where he fishes and what he will be using....

Get the dynamite!!!!

Now just a minute here! What did I do to you SPEED?

Nothing to worry about from me yet....... best I've place at MG is 4th. Of course, last year doesn't count either!  ;D

Hey SPEED, any luck on that, um, bait yet?  ;)

Not yet, but I have a couple new tricks that just arrived via the great state of Nevada.  Gonna put them through their paces tonight at the secret place....

I have a plan for those and when it takes shape, you will be one of the first to know....

The water was just touching the bottom of the dock at the launch 3 weeks ago. I was able to unload my boat without much trouble. Should be up even more now. They fixed the dam.

Thanks for the post tubesock!

Welcome aboard!

I can also confirm the info on MG.  The water is back up and hopefully go up some more.

Also, the wind is still howling there!

BK,

Do you think the wind ever stops there? LOL!!!!!

Am I the only one sad to see the water level back up?  We had a good year when the water was down (a 1st and a 2nd).  I'm hoping our "hot spots" will still hold fish even though they'll be considerably deeper this year.  We went up a few weeks ago and had a pretty good day on some active suspended bass.  When they were really feeding, I think you could've put your finger in the water and got bit.

It's not a bad lake.  I used to hate it, until we figured it out.  Well, ya never totally figure any lake out, lol.  But we finally have some confidence there.  I have noticed that the bass seem to run a little skinny there.  There's a big difference in weight on, say an 18 incher from the MG, and an 18 incher from other lakes.

With the probability of no tournaments at Shawnee this year, how can I get information about tournaments at Rocky Gap?

I'm glad to see the water coming back up. I couldn't catch a fish there last year to save my life. It seemed like the only place you could consistantly catch fish was at the upper end, but that end gets too crowded for me during tourny's. hopefully the bite will pick back up at the lower end now that the water is coming up. Whats up with the Shawnee tournaments? Are there going to be any this year?

I haven't talked to Randy yet, but I had heard there weren't going to be any due to the poor water quality.  They should be treating the water soon with the copper sulfate.  I have a bad feeling it could be quite some time until that lake recovers.  You can still catch a few quality bass there, we even won a tournament there last year, but it is nothing like it was 8 years ago.

I was up there a few weeks ago and seen where they completely cleared another bank for the bank fisherman.  PLUS, they removed one of the very few trees in the water.  They have NO clue as far as the needs of the fish or the fisherman.  All they seemed to be concerned about is the swimmers and the city slickers.  Sorry... I get upset when I talk about what has happened at that lake.

Yeah, there's something up with that lake. Last year i saw lots of dead fish floating. Not sure whats killing them though.

When we were up there a few years ago, we noticed a lot of dead fish.  We talked to one of the fish cops and he said they were Gizzard shad.  He said they were overrunning the lake.  Makes for good big bass food, but they also eat the bass frye.  Says that fishing has been on the decline there.

He said even though its his body of water to work, he wouldn't waste his time to fish there.

That's a shame! Fished two tournaments there 2 years ago. Placed 4th in the first one and not so well in the second one. It took a different style of fishing then what I typically do but that's what made it so fun! Hope they can get things turned around there.
