boat ramp: edwards ferry

caught fish on: 4 in. senkos and gitzit

time: 5-9 pm

I usually just fish for largemouth but me and my friend decided to hit the upper potomac for the first time in search of smallmouths. I was expecting the water to be real shallow but there weren't any huge boulders sticking up out of the water like i'd seen in photos. I also planned on floating down the river but instead a heavey wind from the east took us up river. I expected more boats/canoes and kayaks, but we only saw two. I also expected the bass to be small, and they were. We only caught 7 with the biggest about 13 inches. Still a lot of fun, and I plan on going back, but maybe launching from further up. Anyon else fish this part of the river? Here's the biggest one:

What boat are you fishing from? Just looking for more places I can fish in my 18' er.

Nice looking smallie! It's alot lighter colored than the ones I've been catching! They've had all but black backs in the areas I've been fishing. Lucky you with the boating volume! My last time out wasn't too bad, but the time before, I was lucky to get the last spot in the parking lot. Not going to mention some of the goofballs out on the water that blew right past me when I was fishing a spot.  >:o

a 14' ocean kayak ambush. a boater that was leaving while we were launchin said it was as deep as 10 feet that day. i didn't have a depthfinder with me, but on the opposite side of the shore from edwards ferry it was probably about 7 feet deep just 30 feet from shore. i don't know how clear the water normally is on the upper potomac but half the time we were fishing we couldn't see the bottom. we would see parts of the bottom as far as 4 feet down

The places I fish on the UP are usually muddy from all the wee-haing of the ski boats.

I was on the Potomac Sunday and got caught in that storm. We did a float from Taylor's Landing. The water was and high and running fast. Caught some nice smallies. Lots of fun until the storm. Heading back up this Saturday, may take the boat this time.
