Where have you been finding Bass at your New England Ponds?

Featured Replies

I have been fishing regularly and really have been finding no set pattern as far as fish location. I go to one place and there on the banks. Another and they're deep. I've been fishing a long time and I can almost always count on them on the banks or shallow flats. What have you been finding in your ponds? Could they have hunkered in already and its not even November. These last 2 weeks of October are usually some of the bes fishing of the year for me. In the last 2 weeks I have caught about 10 fish and I get out 5 days a week! Comments?

yeah, I have a comment,   Thats Sucks

This fall has been rough on my confidence so you're not alone.

Sept was good in 8-12' deep grass with a crankbait

Oct has been cold fronts every weekend--

I think there are shallow bass and deep but deep may be easier to catch on a dropshot or jerkbait (tis the season)

try a different pond or bring another person with you that's better  to figure them out

good luck

Crank baits.

Crushed them last weekend with crankbaits running to about 6'.  Look for any type of current and they will be stacked.

All of my recent hits have been in 3 or 4 feet of water on inline spinners, mostly in areas that had lily pads a month or two ago.

I haven't launched my boat in a week or so, but still fish from shore near my house. I have access to a beautiful cove protected from the wind 4' to 6' max, rocks mixed in, and some areas where the grass and weeds have died off. Nice toasty water (for this time of year). NOTHING!!! If you read the books, this cove should have some fish in it.

In the middle of the lake, there are large groups of "coots" (seagulls here in Rhode Island) right in the areas where the fishing has been good all summer. I am thinking they are still out there in 6' to 7' of water. Gotta get the boat out!!!!

Next to nothing today, one dink bass and a small pickerel.   3 pretty good spots, actually caught the bass jigging a spoon off a bridge on the way back to my car.

Went out saturday and got six bass and two pickrel but nothing huge. They all seemed to tight to lilypads in deeper open water probably around 3 to 4 foot. Caught all but one on shinners the other on a baby minus 1.

I was having no luck until a week ago. The 3 weeks before that were horrible. It still hasnt been great but this week I caught 4 bass (2 in the 1.5 to 2.5lb range) and a very large pickerel all on tubes except one, that one was on an ika.

I have been fishing the shallows, with shallow cranks and have been getting decent fish. Look for dieing lily pads and other vegetation to cast near and also other forms of structure.
