Indiana Bassin

Recommended Posts

I live in Indianapolis, but recently I spent the fourth of July weekend on lake Wawasee in northern Indiana, which is around lake Webster, anyways i caught 7 bass and a pike, when I finally got out on the water. the biggest of which being a smallmouth pushing 3 lbs, no monsters, but it sure beat fishing off the docks, I was just wondering if any other anglers where having decent luck in Indiana.

We here in Indiana just generally fish and keep our mouths shut...some great bass fishing, both lakes and rivers in this state.   Some great smallmouth rivers and lakes.

Living in Indy you are right in the middle of some great smallie fishing. The White river which runs through the center of Indy is very good and there are several others good streams within an hours drive.

Pick up a copy of the Indiana DNR publication on Fishing Indiana, it will have lakes and streams listed,(by county) along with acess points.

Most tackle stores will have free copys.

I live near Muncie (45 min NE of indy) the white river has some great spots. surprisingly, there are some good sized fish even through the city strech. you should see some of the carp in there! (not that i like fishing for carp) try the white river near you! don't litter.

You need to try the Barbee Chain which is just south of Webster. Very good Bass fishing especially on Little Barbee and Irish Lake. Each lake has it's unique characteristics so you can always find something biting.

I agree about the Barbee Chain of Lakes in Kosciusko County. We have a place up there and I have caught many bass over the years. Seven lakes to choose from and lots of bass (and muskie, too, if you are interested in bagging one of the big boys).

I live about 200 yards from the White River but have never fished it...go figure.

never fished the white river...? You really better walk over there. I got 2 five lb smallies this year over there, maybe get one more trip in tomorrow, before the winter.

I guess I have just always been a lake fishing guy. I will make sure to get over there soon.

What works best for fishin' the mighty White?

I live in Anderson, by the way.

Today I got a 4 pund bass on a silver rattle trap, that was my best bait this year, and spinner baits / crankbaits work really well too. Some guys over there swear by anything that resembles a crawdad but I have more luck with minnow patterns.

I went to the local park yesterday afternoon for an hour or so and caught a 3# largemouth on a chrome/blue back Rattletrap. I struck out with crankbaits and a Red Eye Shad.

I guess my season is over >:D:). unless i can take a vaca to somewhere warm. cant wait for the spawn next year. i like white booyah spinner baits in the river. also, a black zoom worm with the curly tail and no weight worked great late in the fall. i stood right below the bridge on one of the busiest roads in town and landed 2 good size LMB. so now to pass the time, i am playing a fishing game on the wii. it like drinkin an odoul's when you really wanted a bud.

45 min huh?  Chinook FWA near Brazil I've heard is pretty good, no pesonal experiences there though.  Is Monroe Reservoir that close to you?  I don't know but I know its got fish.  There are several lakes around indy, and like the other guy said, the white has some smallies in it.

Indiana bassin?

My 2 favorites for smallies would be the Tippiecanoe and the Kankakee Rivers; for lakes, I like Lake of the Seven Springs, the Sullivan area, Wolf Lake, Maxinkuckee, Bass Lake, Deams Lake, Potato Creek, and Willow Slough (sometimes referred to as J.C. Murphy Lake).
