Susquehanna River near sunbury

Featured Replies

I fish from an aluminum boat in the susquehanna river whenever I get the chance, was wondering if anyone has any advice for fishing the area between lewisburg and the sunbury dam. I catch some smallies in this stretch of the river each year but not very many at all, help me please!!!

Welcome to THE boards!

I've only had a chance to fish that section of the Susquehanna once so can't offer anything on spots to fish. Smallie baits that have worked for me on the Juniata (grew up in Juniata county) and the Potomac include bandit cranks, jerkbaits, tubes, tiki sticks, bucktail jigs and buzzbaits. Hope this helps some!

I fish the Delaware and tribs for smallies. Look for seams in the current and eddies from boulders. The upstream ends of islands, bridge pilings and rip-rap can be good spots. At other times I target shoreline cover and overhangs. Good luck!

Fish the east branch of the river

I usually fish the North Branch. For me, two very consistent lures on the Susquehanna have been the Rebel Crawfish and the Bettle Spin in white or yellow. I keep the Rebel on the bottom and the Bettle Spin near the top.

Now I use a lot of different lures but these two seem to produce and if I have someone new to the river with me I'll rig him up with of the two.

Good luck!

Fish the branch from williamsport...north i think. It is way less muddy. Crawfish colored cranks and tubes.

If you launch at the sewer plant ramp head to the right (up river) unitl you see some power lines over head. Fish from the island above those lines to just past them. Target the leftside 50% of the river.

Hey everyone, thanks a lot for the advice! I can't wait to fight some smallies soon, temperatures are on the rise!

Gat-Mehn:

Did you fish the Susky's North Branch. I'd like to hit that for smallies. I'd be curious of your outcome.
