what color spoon to use???

Featured Replies

hello, i have only used a johnsons silver spoon and never caught anything on it.

my question is what other type of spoon and color, sil, gold, perch, would you use in 30-50' of water with stained to muddy water. i will be fishing it on a 6'6'' med/heavy johnny morris rod, a johnny morris elite baitcaster reel, with spiderwire invisi-braid 30 lb test. tia

The Johnson Silver Minnow was designed to be fished just under the surface; it is a poor choice for the depths you indicated. What you require are what is know as jigging spoons like Bomber Slab Spoon, Cotton Cordell C.C. Spoon, or a Hopkins Shorty Jig.

Id like to get into spoons but Ive necer caught anything on them too. How about for a depth to only like 13'?

For my jigging spoons...i prefer a 1/2 oz. hopkins (in gold or silver). I replace the hook with a number 4 owner feathered treble. I just got into the jigging spoon craze this winter and i caught a lot on them in december-feb.

As far as color goes....keep it simple with gold or silver

Ok thanks. Is that one of your bass in your avatar?
