There should be some open water there, but i believe it is closed for fishing 250 feet from the dam. I havent been down there in a month

the merrimack is open behind greeley park and easy to walk in.

Is the greely park spot you speak of productive at all? I don't usually fish the merimack so what works during the cold months?

behind greeley not really just is place to be able to cast into the water

i would try around the bridge pilings at the nashua / hudson line or if you can confirm its not illegal then the dam at stellos field

the merrimack is mostly open water

So I called algonquin power and they said they don't have any restrictions as far as fishing by the dam. Nashua I think you said it was 250 feet from the dam but as far as they are concerned they have no such reg. Did you get that info from fish and game? I'm just curious because I want to throw a line in by the dam but don't want to end my trip in cuffs haha.

if i did that right check page 23 fishing restrictions at mines falls and jackson falls dam area

if i read it right you can legally fish above the dam but not below?

I'll be heading up to fish at the power plant today from about 11:00-3:00 if anyone feels frisky and wants to meet me up there. Drop shot smallmouth, here I come!

Where is the power plant?

I get to travel between Nashua and Loudon usually once a week could become a 1/2 hour stop along the

way.

The power plant is in Bow. Halfway between Hooksett and Concord on Rt. 3a. Take Johnson Rd from the South, or River Rd from the North. Today was real slow. They weren't pulling water, and the fish were asleep. I caught two huge crappie, and one small smallmouth, but that's it. Bitsy Bug jigs/Baby Craws were all that got bit at all, worked ridiculously slow. I saw one largemouth cruising that was at least 6lbs, that wouldn't hit anything! Man, I wanted that fish!

Hey guys, i'm thinking of buying a 6' medium st. croix avid rod. Before i pull the trigger i was hoping to get some thoughts or reviews from you guys. Thanks,  Scott

Have any of you guys ever fished sargents pond? I might be staying there this summer. Would like some info if anyone has some.

Triple D, go ahead and get that Avid. They are incredible rods, and probably the best rod for the money at that price point. I have a 7' med fast, and this is one of my favorite rods. You'll love it.

Shane, thanks for the input. I've been looking at them for awhile now and that was just what i needed to hear. Thanks again.

so anyone get out recently? Im hoping to try out some new equipment when it warms up a little bit. Im hoping for somewhere around 40ish to get out there for a few casts and see if i can wake those smallies up.

i am ready and anxious for 2011. the waders are patched, the lines are changed, the motor is tuned.

The hunting fishing lisences are paid, unfortunately the jon boat does not make a good ice breaker.  other than that i am ready.

anyone know of any hunting / fishing shows in the New England area

You mean like this? It was so friggin cold out there today! I ended up with 12 smallies, and 1 largemouth.

Hey Shane thats a hawg for these temps! Whered you get out to looks like the Merrimack? Youve inspired me to get out there this week with those numbers haha...if anyone is to anxious to wait i might be going down to the nashua at the dam tomorrow for about an hour around noonish

Yup, the good ole Merrimack, bro! The section up there in Bow is about the only water around I know of that isn't hard, so I gotta do it, you know? A little sub-arctic temps can't keep me from rippin a few lips! I hope ya'll are makin' it through the winter okay, and catching something if you do get to wet a line.

got out to mine falls dam for a while, and got absolutely nothing. Was nice to throw a few casts though. I was wondering if anyone has ever fished behind the radisson inn in nashua. I saw a video on youtube of a small pond with a fountain which didnt seem like a bad spot the guy pulled in around 4 or 5 bass withing 20 minutes and one around 4lbs

Yeah, a 7 pounder in Florida, is like a 4 lber here. Still a nice bass, but not a trophy.

  • Super User

Hey guys, are there any places anyone could recommend for ice fishing, that catching bass wouldn't be out of the question? I guess I'm gonna plan an outing here soon with a buddy, and don't want to just catch crappie and pickerel.

A friend of my has a lot of luck at Heads Pond. He is always sending pics of all the bass he's caught this year. last year he pulled a 7lb out of there in winter. We're heading out there Sat. with my sons Cub Scout pack. My friend tells me this is the place that has never let him down.

Thanks for the reply, Marc. Good luck out there Saturday.

A little late to the party huh Shane? haha. I think my first day on the ice this year was December 9th or thereabouts and we've been playing on the 4 wheelers and sleds for close to a month now.

I've always liked ice fishing little ponds more than lakes, maybe because I'm fishing big lakes all summer. Check out your Clark's and find somewhere that looks like it's out of the way and doesn't get too much pressure and go have some fun. That's what I'd do anyway.

And good job milking the open water for all it's worth   :P
