Anyone have any luck in SOUTHERN NH yet? started 3/12/2011

Hey everyone,

I got done reading a book about a month ago that was called "The Bassing of New Hampshire: How Black Bass Came to the Granite State". I would like to recommend it to anyone who is a bass fisherman in NH because it explains in detail how no bass existed in NH only 150 years ago. It gives records from the fish and game back in the 1800's and early 1900's about when specific bodies of water were stocked and where the original bass came from. I found it to be a great book for any avid bass fisherman in the state, and best of all it was free to rent at my public library (Bow- Baker Free Library for me) Here is a link to it on Amazon. Let me know if anyone else has read this.

  • Been super busy the past week or so and haven't been on. The big fish are definitely feeding real good now. Watched someone catch an almost 7 1/2 largemouth last night. Caught my new PB 5 pound 5 oz

Had a pretty good weekend out. Was up in Maine with the Wife's family and fished from sun up to sun down Friday, Saturday and Sunday until about 5pm. Hammered them. Caught another 5lb Smallie, as well

Hey, thanks, I'll have to check that out. On another note. Today I got out to two different places, and got 26 more bass. They ranged from 1.5 lbs, to 6lbs 4oz. Got 9 this morning on topwater (Rage Shad), then a few on a new Rage Tail bait Tx rigged, and a ton on a keel-weighted Rage Lobster, including the big one of the day. Stay on 'em, guys!

Nice Shane. Keep on them.

Got out on the water this afternoon for a few hours with clr8899 & we managed 12 largemouth with nearly all of them being 1.5-2 pounds. Caught most on wacky rigged senko and a few on the keel-weighted rage craw.

Dam Shane. I need to go fishing with you sometime. I will be heading up to VT this Thursday for a fishing get-a-way. Will be fishing Lake Champlain. 1st time fishing there. Hopefully I'll have some pics of some pigs I can post when I get back Sunday.

Good luck, klubba. Champlain is an exciting place to be able to fish. Some serious smallies in there, buddy!

Hey guys, I know most of the bigger smallmouth in deeper lakes hold real deep in the summer and are difficult to locate without a fish finder/depth finder to locate deep structure and bait. I see that for the next 10 days that the overnight lows are about 60 degrees so that should be cooling down the water temps in most lakes and bringing fish more shallow. Anyone have any input on how long until the smallies will start to move back to more shallow water where they can be caught from shore?

From experience I would say that they come back to shallow water when the (water) temp hits around 65 degrees and lower.

Hey guys, good looking fish all around. I've been busy fishing tourneys, doing alright but struggling to find size. My dad and I fish together and we have both agreed the numbers are way up this year, but we are lacking the kickers that always seem to be around.

BIP is probably better this year that it has been in years. Schoolies are abundant and make for fun nights after a long day. You can easily get (10) 3-lbrs in a row if you get into them. Fun stuff.

Anywho I've got one coming up Sunday at Northwood and then am fishing Stumpfield Labor Day weekend. Anyone fished either lately? Any updates??

I pulled at 21" long, 6lb LMB out of Kimball Pond in Dunbarton yesterday afternoon. I caught it on a black ruby baby brush hog on a 1/8oz shaky head on 8lb XPS fluoro.

Wow, very nice Largemouth bwillis.

Nice fish!

That is awesome bwillis! I have fished there a ton of times and only ended up with pickerel. Nice fish

Thanks a lot. I was actually trying to get to Purgatory Pond, but the road was blocked off because they were doing some tree work or something. On my way around, I saw a boat launch sign, so I headed there instead.

Hey guys, I wanted to share a trick that me and clr9933 recently learned from an edition of Bassmaster magazine. The article I read recommended that if you are having trouble getting a lot of bites and just fished around vegetation that looks good but did not produce any fish, then turn your engine right into the weeds and give it some gas to stir up the weed bed and rip out some lillypads. This stirs up small bugs that the sunfish and baitfish will feed on and that gets the attention of bass.

After letting the spot settle for 15-20 minutes, come back and try fishing it again with soft plastics and you may have completely different results than when you first fished it. I know it sounds kind of crazy, but we tried it and it immediately caught 3 largemouth off of a spot we had been fishing for 15 minutes without getting a bite. Let me know if you try it out and have any results.

I will have to try that out nhbassin. If weather is good this weekend, I will give it a shot and let you know.

Fished for a little while at Turree Pond today and got 3 bass in total. All three came on a keel weighted rage rooster in green with red flake. It has been seeming to work well for me on these windy days because the fish don't get as good of a look at the bait. Here is a picture of the biggest one I caught weighing 2.9 pounds.

Hey guys, it's been really tough for me to get out this year with an 8 month old at home, but I got out yesterday with my buddy in the canoe on my favorite smallie spot and had a great time. I caught both these pigs, that were 3.32lbs and 4.2lbs respectively. They were in in less than a foot of water right against the shore. I caught them both with a senko. My buddy caught one around 3lbs on a skitter pop in 6 inches of water. They are moving shallow again!!

Those are some solid smallies Jaystraw! Good to hear they are moving more shallow now after this colder weather we have had latley

Hey Guys, I took Shane's adivce this spring and started fishing with a keel weighted rage rooster and it really paid off. I got my 2nd biggest bass ever, and the biggets bass that has been posted so far on this thread this year (as far as I know) at 6 pounds 13 ounces. I weighed it 3 times and it came out the same each time on my digital scale. Sorry to NHbassMaster2 and FishingOnTheEdge, but when you guys said that there were no good bass in Hot Hole Pond earlier this year, I did not want to respond until I had proof. I spooked some big fish there this spring during the pre spawn, and tonight I got to find out how big those fish actually were. With an unlimited amount of stocked trout to feed on each year there, the largemouth can get huge. Caught this one right off the boat ramp and after a 2 minute fight on my spinning rod I finnally landed it.

thanks nhbasssin. They were close to the biggest smallies I have ever caught.

Nice hawg!!!! That's a beauty!

I got out again yesterday with close to the same results except my big ones came unbuttoned at the boat. I did land a 4 pound LMB though and about 10 smallies.

The fishing has really picked up the last week or so. Bring on the fall!!
