Central PA. Lake Updates

I haven't been on a bass adventure yet... Trout fishing has been good though. Caught a few browns over the weekend. I'm going to try and get the NuCanoe out this weekend and hit Walker or Faylor.

I am thinkin about going to a pond tonight up here in slippery rock at one of the state gamelands.. hoping to at least catch a couple dinks.. I have been out 3x this year without a bite.. kinda depressing..

Not the way to start a season! The river is finally at a decent level, may try and hit some smallies after work. Good luck!

Has anybody been to Colyer Lake this spring? I live in State College and go to Penn State so this is the closest lake for me. I was there a few times last summer but not yet this spring. I mostly fish from the shore because I don't have my boat at school. Does anybody have any tips for shore fishing at Colyer?

Colyer is a TOUGH fish from shore. I fish that lake a lot, so I know it fairly well. How adventurous do you feel? There's a path (sort of) on either side of the lake that ends at the main point on the lake. That point is where most of the action is. You can catch a ton of bass on a jig skipped down the point. Another good spot is behind the point - there's a little cut out with some timber in it, great spot for flippin'.

Don't feel like walking that far - then try fishing where the creek enters the lake (this is on the side with the crappy boat launch, not the nice one). Ton's of pickerel in that area too, they can be fun. From the creek mouth all the way out about 3/4 of the way to the point is one huge grass flat. There's some massive fish in there, but they are hard to find with such a large area to cover. You can also try fishing around the dam, but that's hit or miss too. Crappie hang out around there mostly.

This girl came out of the grass flats, I was heading to the point and this guy started yelling for me to take his photo LOL:

and here is the same guy in the early 90's with a nice one from Colyer... Kinda pointless to share, but I think the photo is hilariously nostalgic :) I still talk to that guy from time to time, he fishes that lake almost everyday (his name is Andy, he uses a green canoe with a TM).

I like sayers but it is a tough lake to fish.. I like fishing weeds in the summertime along with the man made structure.. Buddy of mine caught a huge musky last summer on a 1 dollar walmart spinnerbait..

Tough is VERY true. I try bass fishing Sayers a few times early season and usually get disgusted. Tend to take the kid there for some crappy fishing throughout the summer just to catch a bunch of small fish for release. Usually if a crappy hits the 9 inch minimum it's gone. Won't get into the illegal crappy taken by the foreigners who think everything is legal and should be kept. I digress. I bowfish for carp here at night so I've seen some very nice bass below the beach on the mountain side. Occasional huge musky are seen as well. I've been told real early morning is a good time but plan to leave by 9 or 10. Good luck and let me know how you make out.

yeah you are lucky if you catch a 9in crappie... most are around the 8.5in range!

Does anyone know if they put the floating docks in yet at Curwensville?

Still not in here at Glendale, least not on my side of the lake (maybe the main marina?).

not sure Hot rod but i can try and find out for ya. Last year at this time the park was completely closed.. so not sure yet. ill keep ya posted

Cool! Thanks CPB.

On a side note, I did see that at Glendale the floating dock has been installed at the Wyerough launch. Think that's where I'll head this morning. Stayin' close to home to save some gas $$$

Took Monday off and I'm thinking of hitting Rose Valley Lake. Anyone been there yet this spring?
