Lake Jackson

Featured Replies

Wife and I just bought a piece of property on Lake Jackson in Northern Va. Anyone know anything about the fishing on the lake. I've heard numbers, but not great size.

Welcome to the forum.

This is a private lake, unless you own property on or around it with access rights in the deed, you can't get on it. A guy I work with lives on the lake and I hinted around about fishing on it but could not seem to get him to grant me access to it. I have heard there are some decent size LMBs in it..

Party at dches' house  ;D ;D

j/k welcome to BR!

Hey, welcome to the forums man.  There are largemouth and smallmouth in that lake.  It's basically a stem off of the Occoquan Reservoir.  The reservoir (Occoquan) has a branch around Fountainhead that goes southwest after cutting across Davis Ford Rd, the PW parkway and Dumfries Rd.  A little after Dumfries Rd it turns into Lake Jackson.  The Rez has big flathead catfish, carp, bluegill, largemouth bass and some smallmouth bass.  I heard that the runs after Lake Jackson (Broad and Cedar Run) are pretty good smallmouth fisheries, so I'd imagine that Lake Jackson probably holds some pretty nice smallies that move downstream with the current into the different branches and creeks.  Haven't heard of anyone from the forums that fishes here or has land here.

Thanks

I'm hoping the fishing is decent there

If it is, it will be the Lake Jackson Open (either fishing or beer) come spring time

I want in on the Lake Jackson Open, where do I sign up?

We will find out about the fishing in the morning, it will be the first day I have a chance to get out there

I fish lake jackson, it's actually fed by broad run and cedar run which merge together at a fork upstream near bristow and brentsville road, that strecth after they merge is the best stretch until the open lake before the dam, Lake jackson then feeds into the occoquan resevoir which starts at the bottom of lake jackson dam by 234. It's a nice lake, and is very private, i do however have a key :-X, haven't been on it this year but last year i did well. Good luck!

Fishing was not too hot this past weekend. We didn't stay out too long, pretty cold a bunch to take care of with the new place. Wife had the only catch a whopping 6 inch small mouth. I think it will be good though once we learn the spots

Lake Jackson can be productive in the winter.  The place is loaded with yellow perch so use those patterns to haul up the big boys.

To be honest, I'm not used to fishing year round. I'm sort of new to the game. Any suggestions?

Look for the baitfish would be the main one I can think of.  I would also work the deeper water with crankbaits and jigs.

Yep, they will hang tight to structure in deeper water, you have to throw the crank right over their nose so don't hesitate to hit the same spot like 30 times.  I caught a 6 pounder out of there one day after breaking the ice at the put in.  Rattle traps work well, c rigs too but fish it  S L O W.
