Are there any posts or columns addressing the techniques of using a roostertail?  Anyone have any anectdotes, canter, horror stories, advise on throwing and retrieving these little rascals?

I have never used Rooster Tails for bass, but I use single hook Rooster Tails (1/24 and 1/16 oz) to fish for trout and do very well using them.  No real tricks for trout.  I vary the retrieve as I see how the fish react.  Sometimes a slow retrieve works best, sometimes stop and go and sometimes fast (especially in fast moving water).  I doubt this will answer your questions about using them for bass.

i have used rooster tails for bass and they work great.. the smallmouths in a near by stream just kill them. white or black work best.. last year i experimented a little and was casting rooster tails to pre spawn smallmouths and i caught 53. the smaller the better. good luck

fish these spinners around rip rap and their a killer for smallmouth

You can bend the wire of the in-line spinner about 45 degrees or so and that will help reduce line twist.

I fish a little river and damm by my house, and I use these rooster tail spinners off the damm, they are great on the smallies.

With regard to smallmouth, is this a little fish lure?

I have caught nice smallies on Rooster Tails.

I agree white and black are very good.

I have caught them on yellow to.

Northerns will hit the yellow also.

yea i use rooster tails alot and the technique i use is when u make the cast and it sinks to what u want it too then jerk it one time and then start reeling it it

i use a 1/4 frog colored one occasionally and they are great fish catchers. ive caught fish that i would consider dinks all the way up to 5 lbs including the first bass I eve caught. just cast them out and reel them in, somtimes i will pause during the retrieve and let if fall for a split second and then start reeling again. The one thing i dont liek about the is that due to their small size you will gill hook alot of fish

another good brand for inline spinners is Blue Fox  

I always have considered Rooster Tails good "farm pond" lures but never tried them on a larger body of water.  I learned last year though that if you tie on a Hellbender then come off the back of the Hellbender with about 4 foot of line tied to a Rooster Tail and troll them at outboard idle speed you can load the boat.  We have caught white bass, largemouths and numerous stripes this way.

They are pretty good smallie baits, but ive also caught a load of little largemouth on them any color will do
